There are three matchdays left to play in the regular phase of the Clausura 2024 with two teams already directly qualified for the next round of the tournament. América and Toluca are both on 29 points at the top of the general table - a figure which means they can longer be caught by either of the three teams that bring up the rear in the playoff places: Pumas, León and Santos Laguna, on 20, 20 and 15 points respectively.

Two direct qualification places to play for

The Águilas reached 29 points after drawing 1-1 with Santos Laguna - a result which, combined with Monterrey’s defeat 2-1 defeat to Cruz Azul, allowed them to pull away at the top of the table. América are level on points with Toluca, who have a slightly superior goal difference (+16 compared to +14). Later on matchday 14, Toluca beat Atlas 4-1 to equal the Coapa’s team in points, but secure first place. Rayados remain in third place on 28 points.

Just behind Rayados are Cruz Azul on 26 points, Pachuca on 25 and Necaxa on 24 - all three teams have guaranteed their place in the Play-In, but still have a chance to enter the Liguilla directly with two places still up for grabs. There are still some clashes between direct rivals between now and the end of the regular phase, including Pachuca vs Guadalajara and Necaxa vesus Monterrey.

Another game which could see the order at the top of the table change is next weekend’s game between América and Toluca at the Azteca. The regular phase reaches its conclusion on 28 April. Tijuana and Puebla, occupying the last two positions in the table, are the only two clubs which mathematically have no option of making it to the postseason.
