Luka Modric mocks Real Madrid player for missing sitter
Los Blancos came away with a crucial win against Cádiz on Thursday night, but there was a moment that few could have believed.
Given recent results, which saw Barcelona move five points clear at the top of LaLiga Santander, Thursday’s game at home to Cádiz was seen as hugely important for Real Madrid. As it turned out, Carlo Ancelotti’s men did the job required, a trademark Toni Kroos rocket sealing a 2-1 victory, but something else had fans around the Bernabéu and beyond talking.
Modric miss mocked... by Modric
If we are to take a scale of impressiveness and apply it to the German’s strike, we were all marking it mightily high. And just as outstanding, if for opposite reasons, was the ability of his long-time midfield partner, Luka Modric, to miss what can only be described as an open goal.
Following great work down the left from Vinicius, the ball was rolled temptingly across the six-yard box for the Croatian to slot home. Instead, we all collectively gasped in disbelief as he fired it wide of the far post. Immediately the veteran player fell to the turf, his head lodging into it as if literally begging for the ground to open up and swallow him. And later, in a good mood knowing it didn’t cost his team the three points, he joked on Twitter.
“They say that someone missed a sitter,” he joked in Spanish with a variety of well chosen emojis.
With that being Madrid’s final game before the World Cup, Modric can next be seen, missing sitters or not, in the other white (a red) shirt he loves, playing for Croatia. All your 2022 World Cup information is just a click away.
