Man City deserved to win, like Madrid last year - Ancelotti

Manchester City finally got their revenge on Real Madrid after being eliminated from the Champions League by them last year and will move on to the final.

Update:

Manchester City will move on to play Inter Milan in the Champions League final after a 4-0 win in the second leg of the semifinals saw the beat last year’s reigning champion Real Madrid on a 5-1 aggregate.

Last year, Real Madrid went on to win the Champions League over Liverpool, but first broke the hearts of City at this very stage.

Now, it’s City’s time to finally win the trophy that has eluded them until now.

Ancelotti says City “deserved to win”

Last year’s semifinal saw City take the lead in the first leg at the Etihad only to lose the lead and then some when they played in Madrid, losing in disappointing fashion on a 6-5 aggregate to the eventual champions.

This year, it was City who ended the tie at home. The first leg ended on a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid and the second a convincing shutout by City at the Etihad.

“I think that tonight Man City deserved to win because they played better than us,” said Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti. “Last season, it was different. This season, they deserved to reach the final and fight for the [title]. They were better than us, as we were better than them last season.”
