A last-gasp goal by Doku got Guardiola out of a sticky mess against Everton, but still handed Arsenal the keys to the title.
Man City rename Etihad Stadium for Brentford visit after slip in Premier League title race
Manchester City will give the Etihad Stadium a temporary new name when Brentford visit on Saturday, with the ground becoming “The City in the Community Etihad Stadium” for the day.
It’s part of the club’s annual Community Matchday, which puts the spotlight on City in the Community, the charity linked to the club that works across Manchester.
The change itself is symbolic, but it comes with something more tangible behind it. Members of the first-team squad have made a financial contribution for the second year running, helping fund the City Mentoring programme over the next 12 months.
Man City players highlight local impact of community initiative
Rodri described the day as an important one for the club and the area around it, pointing to the focus on younger people. Nico O’Reilly, who came through locally, spoke about the personal side of giving something back to the same community.
There will be smaller touches around the match as well. Players will wear special walk-out jackets tied to the initiative, which will later be signed and auctioned. The stadium and surrounding transport announcements will also carry the charity’s message.
Must-win Premier League game
All of it unfolds against a more familiar pressure on the pitch.
City are still in the Premier League title race, but their margin for error has tightened after the recent stumble at Everton. With Arsenal now in the driving seat, there is no room for anything but three points.
Brentford’s visit, then, carries weight regardless of the name above the doors. The setting may feel slightly different for a few hours, but the task in front of Guardiola’s side is straightforward enough: win, and keep the race alive.
