Manchester City - Liverpool team news: injured and suspended players
Manchester City host Liverpool in a crunch title clash on Sunday, with just one point separating the Premier League’s top two.
Manchester City team news: Dias and Palmer out, Walker returns
Rúben Dias and Cole Palmer remain unavailable to Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola, who otherwise has a fully-fit squad for Sunday’s crucial Premier League clash with title rivals Liverpool.
Centre-back Dias has been out since the start of March with a hamstring problem, while midfielder Palmer hasn’t appeared for City since suffering a foot injury in early January.
Full-back Kyle Walker returns to selection contention for City after missing Tuesday’s 1-0 Champions League win over Atlético Madrid through suspension.
None of City’s players are suspended this weekend.
Liverpool team news: “everyone is available”
As for Liverpool, Reds boss Jürgen Klopp says he has a full complement of players at his disposal for the trip to the Etihad Stadium. “When I looked last time on my smartphone, it looked like everyone is available again,” Klopp told reporters on Friday.
The German revealed that midfielder Fabinho is “fine”, despite suffering a cut to his head after colliding with defender Nicolás Otamendi in Liverpool’s 3-1 Champions League victory over Benfica on Tuesday.
Like City, Liverpool have no suspended players.
Liverpool out to leapfrog City at top of table
Premier League leaders Manchester City host second-placed Liverpool with just one point separating the teams.
The visitors are after their 11th straight top-flight win, as they bid to complete a fightback from languishing 14 points behind City in January - albeit the Merseysiders had two games in hand.
Having established themselves as the Premier League’s chief title foes in recent years, City and Liverpool are set to finish as the division’s top two for the third time in four campaigns - and Guardiola says the Reds have proved the toughest opponent of his coaching career.
“When I retire and watch and play golf, I will remember the biggest rivalry was Liverpool,” the City boss told his pre-match press conference. “When you achieve 100 points and 98 points [in a season], you need someone to push from behind to be so close.”
After facing off in the Premier League on Sunday, City and Liverpool meet again in the FA Cup semi-finals next weekend.
