Haaland's goal tonight saw him set a new record for goals scored in a single season by a Premier League player across all competitions. 45. And the season is not exactly finished... absolute machine.
Thomas Tuchel post-match:
We are very sad with the result.
I loved it for 70 minutes, we dominated and had chances, good moments.
It was a matter of time to equalise but after 70 minutes they scored and it cost us the game.
I'm not angry about individual mistakes.
It was a good match and I'm proud of how we handled it, but we got punished and it cost us.
I'm happy with the performance, the attitude, we got punished for not a lot.
Bernardo Silva post-game:
Before the first goal, I just thought: Rodri, what are you doing? But it was a great goal.
It opened the game, one that was going to be very difficult for us.
In these games, with such good players, the small details make the difference.
The 3-0 looks like it was easy, but it wasn't.
All the teams at this level are very good.
We are happy with the result because it gives us a lot of help for the next leg of the tie.
We knew we were playing at home, we wanted to control and have to the ball, to press.
If you have the ball they can't score. But against Bayern you have to suffer.
In the first half, the manager changed a few things that helped us a lot with our press.
Here's more on Haaland breaking another goal record. How many records has he got left to achieve?
Stones takes the MVP award.
The man from Barnsley was amazing today; Rodri and Aké are probably the only players who matched his performance.
Pep Guardiola post-game:
"It was not comfortable. I am emotionally destroyed!"
Here's how things went in the other game tonight: Inter look to have one foot in the semi-final...
Statsbomb show how much City dominated
Bayern Munich never really laid a glove on City when you look at the game like this...
Another record for Erling
The Leeds-born forward is now the highest scoring PL player in all competitions. Not bad...
Rodri post-game:
I'm happy for the effort of the team, which was incredible, titanic.
Bayern play really quickly, with good players, but we hurt them.
We played well collectively. We chose our moments to attack, and we defended well.
You get one guess at who is Sofascore's player of the match...
City go into the second leg xG champions
Tommy Tuchel has got a lot of homework to do if he wants Bayern to switch it up for the second leg and pull off the near-impossible.
I know you're waiting for it:
Here's the Sofascore graph, with City's second half dominance clear to see...
FT: Manchester City 3-0 Bayern
City tore Bayern Munich into shreds in the second half, one in which the away side were complicit in their downfall, thanks to countless errors in defence.
Upamecano was having a solid game at the back, until his error allowed Silva to score City's second goal. From then it was all one way, and Haaland got the third after Bayern's poor clearance from a corner - and they could have scored more.
Bayern's last 30 minutes was littered with mistakes and poor decisions from almost everyone, leading to arguments on the pitch. Rodri's golazo in the first half had set the tie up beautifully for a hotly contested second half, but City were ruthless and take a humungous lead to Germany for the second leg.
Full time at the Etihad Stadium!
It's De Ligt this time who fails a simple, 5-yard pass out from the back, allowing Silva to slip in and pick up possession.
Dias heads away a Cancelo cross, to the delight of the fans (who have been very loud all night).
3 added minutes.
The City fans are bouncing in their seats. At least they came to see this one.
Grealish hits over the bar from distance after seeing his name in lights. City are toying with Bayern.
Pavard goes into Gil Manzano's naughty book after a late challenge on Grealish.
AND SOMMER PULLS OFF A SPECTACULAR SAVE FROM RODRI'S HEADER!
Another hilariously terrible mistake, again from Upamecano, who plays a suicidal pass to Sommer that flies out for a corner.
Under 5 minutes to go now, and City are taking their sweet, sweet time with just about everything.
False alarm. He's fine.
Stones races back to beat Sané to a ball over the top, and it looks like he's hurt himself.
City burst forward and Álvarez hits a curling shot that takes the paint off the post as Sommer stretches to reach the ball.
Meanwhile, Sané and Mané are having a big ol' argument on the pitch. Maybe they're arguing about who's got the best surname.
ÁLVAREZ FIRES WIDE FROM DISTANCE!
Cancelo is being heavily booed by the City fans every time he touches the ball.
Gnabry and Davies OFF
Müller and Cancelo ON
Bayern are making error after error and City are pouncing on them like hyenas.
Sommer saves again from a cross after Upamecano lost the ball as he tried a simple pass to Davies.
City are in playtime mode now, and look ready to score three more.
A City corner is only half-cleared by Bayern and the ball is put back in towards the far post before begin headed across goal, where monster boy is waiting to put the ball past Sommer.
The Etihad Stadium erupts.
HAALAND GETS HIS NAME ON THE SCORESHEET
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
CITY GET THREE
GUESS WHO!
City ping the ball in and around the Bayern defenders, and the ball falls to Julián Álvarez, whose low shot is well saved by the goalkeeper.
A HUGE SAVE FROM SOMMER
Leroy Sané is holding his knee; for now, he's carrying on...
City want more, and immediately put Bayern on the back foot with relentless attacks right after the restart.
That mistake could be huge for Bayern, who had been the better team this half...
A huge error from Upamecano, who has otherwise been excellent. He tries to dribble out from the back and loses the ball to Grealish, who flicks to Haaland on the left.
The Norwegian takes a touch and plays a cross to the far post for Silva to fire a header past Sommer.
Musiala OFF
Mané ON
Coman delivers a fearsome cross that is headed over by Pavard, who had somehow made his way to the penalty spot.
De Bruyne OFF
Álvarez ON
De Bruyne breaks forward but he still doesn't appear 100% and is quickly crowded out by red shirts.
Sadio Mané is warming up, it looks like he's about to come on.
De Bruyne is back. Scare over.
De Bruyne is down and receiving treatment.
Sané breaks forward but visibly raises his arms questioning the lack of options ahead of him. He lays off to Kimmich, who fizzes a shot towards goal that Dias blocks with his face.
City have been creeping towards Bayern's goal over the past few minutes: sooner or later the half-chances that they're having will turn into something more dangerous. Especially with monster boy up front.
Bernardo Silva just did a madness, slipping the ball through Davies' legs before doing the same thing to Pavard with his next touch. Filthy.
City are slowly returning to their original, calm state of mind, popping the ball from left to right.
Pep Guardiola is on his knees in the technical area....
DIAS CHANCE SAVED!
He took the ball down on his chest and hit a volley from a few yards out that Sommer pushed over the bar!
Grealish gets the ball and skips inside before back-heeling a pass to Aké, who is overlapping. The defender hits a shot that Sommer puts wide.
AKÉ HITS A SHOT!
SOMMER SAVES!
City's first-half calmness has gone. Completely. This game is a mess. Love it.
De Ligt and Coman both see headers blocked just seconds apart!
MORE CHANCES FOR BAYERN!
The German winger really wants to score a screamer today!
He takes the ball 30 yards out and hits a shot that flies like a rifle round towards the goalkeeper, who manages to push it away.
ANOTHER SANÉ BULLET FIRED AT EDERSON
A slight pause in plat as Grealish goes down injured. He looks OK to continue.
Upamecano tries to play back to Sommer, who gets given a terrible ball. The goalkeeper goes to clear the danger and fails to do so, and the ball lands with Haaland, whose shot is blocked.
Pavard takes the ball just a few yards out from his own goal and plays back to Sommer, who fails to clear again. This time, it lands to Gundogan who sees his shot blocked.
A MASSIVE MOMENT FOR CITY!
MISTAKES GALORE FROM BAYERN!
Davies booked for stopping the City counter.
Sané is played into all sorts of space in the left channel but for some reason, with Gnabry and Coman to his right, he goes for the shot that is saved by Ederson.
A HUGE CHANCE FOR BAYERN!
The first yellow of the game goes to Bernardo Silva after he trips Musiala on the counter. A typical Pep foul.
I wonder if Tommy Tuchel has a spare baseball cap for Guardiola, who is hatless in the pouring rain.
A frantic start to the half: Goretzka bursts past the City press in midfield and plays left to Sané, who lets fly towards Ederson from the edge of the box.
A warning for the hosts.
BAYERN CHANCE!
And we're off for the second half!
Manchester City get us going.
The players are back out for the second half... here we go!
As has become usual at the Etihad, the Champions League anthem was ferociously booed by the fans - but why?
Well, here's the answer...

Remember, we've got coverage of the other quarter-final: Benfica vs Inter. Make sure to check out what's happening in Portugal.
What a fantastic half of football from both teams. City on balance, probably deserve to be in front as they have had the clearer chances, but there is so much quality on the pitch it really could swing either way.
City have had 6 shots and 3 on target; Bayern have had 4 in total and 0 on target. Bayern seem to lack that cutting edge to really put City under pressure while the home side are having certain moments of brilliance from individual players which, in this case, has been the difference.
The Rodri golazo is the cherry on the top of the cake: a truly fantastic strike. In terms of defence, City are managing to keep Bayern's wingers fairly quiet and Gnabry has been absent to far. Let's see if Tommy Tactics tinkers with anything during the break.
Half-time at the Etihad!
SANÉ FIRES JUST WIDE FROM DISTANCE!
What a hit, out of nowhere, on the right side.
City play the ball through Bayern's lines and Gündogan almost finds De Bruyne inside the box. Pavard clears.
2 added minutes.
City look to be seeing out this half with possession. As per usual.
He's back on now and looks OK.
And immediately he does down like a dying swan after being shoved by Haaland.
We're back underway but De Ligt is receiving treatment off the pitch.
De Ligt is down... he looks to have twisted his ankle.
Musiala skips behind the defensive line of Guardiola's side and cuts the ball back towards the penalty spot, but nobody is there to sweep into the net.
Just Gündogan, who clears the ball.
Bayern work the ball well on the edge of the City box but there are so many players back that Sané decides that no pass options are on and the best thing to do is to run through all the defenders by himself, which doesn't go well.
A free-kick is given in the middle third of the pitch as De Bruyne is brought down by Pavard after sending him for a bratwurst.
The ball is played to Rodri who crosses from the right and Upamecano (again) is on duty to clear away the danger.
A moment of madness as the resulting corner from City is headed across goal about a million times before being cleared by Upamecano.
The resulting counter attack from Sané ends with a ferocious Kimmich shot that is well blocked by Akanji.
De Bruyne played in a cross that bounced inside the box. Sommer came out to punch it away and was clattered by Grealish.
The ball fell to Gündogan who hit a volley that smacked against the goalkeeper on the floor!
WHAT A HUGE CHANCE FOR CITY!
Akanji played a lovely long ball over the top of everyone that almost reaches Gündogan, who raced in behind De Ligt.
City come close again, this time with Grealish who gets in behind Pavard and plays a dangerous cross towards the penalty spot that is cleared by Upamecano.
Coman and Sané appear to have switched sides; let's see if it changes things...
Even after that goal, Guardiola looks an angry man.
We're back underway. Breathe, Joe (and I'm not even a City fan).
Bernardo tries to work the ball into the box down the right, but plays back to Rodri up the wing after being forced away from goal by Davies.
Rodri takes the ball and skips inside onto his left foot. He takes a touch, opens his body and unleashes a curling, spinning effort high into the top corner of Sommer's goal. Wonderful.
WHAT AN AMAZING GOAL
Sané whizzed past Akanji on the left and fired a low cross into the feet of Musiala, who hit a low shot that was blocked by Dias. A huge chance from 10 yards out.
HUGE CHANCE! BAYERN!
Bayern try to tap the ball around the home side's defence on the edge of the box, but City stand strong and force the Germans to loose possession.
Aké does excellently well against Coman, stopping his mazy run down the wing and forcing the winger to turn around and kick the ball out of play in frustration. Simply brilliant defensive work.
Lovely work from City, who flick the ball through the lines to Grealish in a central position.
He opens his body and taps the ball left to Haaland, who somewhat rushes his shot, hitting it low into the hands of Sommer.
HAALAND COMES CLOSE!
De Bruyne gets behind Davies on City's right and fires in a bullet of a cross that Gundogan looks certain to get to, but Kimmich taps the ball behind for a corner.
CHANCE! CITY!
A long ball from Akanji finds Grealish in space but the move breaks down after good defensive work from Pavard.
Guardiola is not a happy man.
Musiala dances on the edge of the box before setting up Davies, who plays the ball left to Sané. The winger's shot is blocked by Akanji.
The crowd is right behind City tonight: every tackle is being cheered or booed heavily depending which way it goes: and the team are responding well.
CITY GO CLOSE!
Bayern's goalkeeper Sommer gets the ball from De Ligt.
His touch needs to be lightning quick as Haaland is chasing him down. He takes the ball across the goal line and almost allows the Norwegian to tap into the net, but manages to kick it away just in time.
City win the ball from Bayern and break like animals, causing the crowd to push them on. They've had the momentum over the past few minutes.
Manchester City are being incredibly patient with their build-up, waiting for the precise moment before making a pass. It's a real chess game on the pitch right now.
So far, I'd say Gundogan's header has been the best chance.
Davies gets the ball on the edge of the box after some nice work from Bayern, but he drags his shot wide of the far post.
Bayern now with some possession, which is mainly coming down the left.
Pep Guardiola is going bonkers on the toucline.
Another shot for City after Gundogan heads over from a De Bruyne cross.
The home side did well to work the ball down the right with Bernardo and the Belgian.
The heavens have just opened and the rain is like nothing ever seen before in Manchester*.
*this is a joke. It always rains in Manchester.
Haaland has City's first shot of the night: a wild effort high and wide after he skipped past Upamecano in the left channel.
Akanji has a scary moment after his loose touch almost allows Sané in down the left, but Ederson comes out to support the defender and avoid a dangerous situation.
City are happy to keep the ball in the opening stages.
Coman and Aké are going to have a lovely time getting to know each other on the wing tonight.
The winger has tried twice now to get past his opponent. Aké has won the ball on both occasions.
Some early craziness as Grealish skips past Pavard, Upamecano slips and the striker feeds De Bruyne on the edge of the box, who can't quite get a shot away.
And we're off at the Etihad stadium!
Bayern, in all red, get us going from right to left.
A big hug between Tommy Tuchel and Pep Guardiola before kick off.
The two teams are out of the tunnel... here comes the Champions League anthem! (the rain has stopped)
The Chaaaaaampiooooonss....
The players have returned to the dressing rooms for the final team talk before kick-off!
10 minutes to go!

Here's what Guardiola had to say on Erling Haaland's transfer to City:
Q: Did you sign Haaland to win the Champions League?
“He is so important for us. He came to help us to try and win the Champions League, but at the same time, daily, in the FA Cup and Premier League as well. It’s important to have a player who can score from nothing.”
“Against Monaco we scored six goals and we are out. Against Tottenham, we scored four goals and we’re out. Against Real Madrid, four goals and we are out. We have always scored goals (in the Champions League), that was not the problem in general.
I've already given you Haaland's sensationally scary numbers, but what about his ex-rivals, Bayern Munich? Here's everything you need to know on the 5-time winners.
Here's how Sofascore see it:
The folks over at Sofascore Towers have decided to go with the Pep special 3-2-4-1 and a more straight-forward 4-1-4-1 for Bayern, with Gnabry up top for the Germans.
Haaland already has a ton of Champions League scoring records in his soccer satchel... but there are more to bag!
Bayern starting XI:
Sommer; Pavard, Upamecano, De Ligt, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka, Musiala; Sané, Coman, Gnabry
The winner of City-Bayern...
... will face either Real Madrid or Chelsea in the semi-final round. The current European champions play tomorrow at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu where they will look to get past Frank Lampard's Blues.
Manchester City XI:
Ederson; Stones, Akanji, Dias, Aké; Rodri, De Bruyne, Gündogan; Bernardo, Haaland, Grealish
We've got a poll running...
Head on over to our Twitter @English_AS to have your say on who's coming away with the advantage from a (surprisingly) wet Manchester tonight!
10 goals in his last 3 games: Haaland is a goal machine.
But you knew that already. Everything points to monster boy being fit to start today for City and we will likely see an extremely interesting battle between him and the Bayern defence, who can boast only conceding two goals. Until today.

Pep Guardiola's pre-game quotes:
(I want to win it) A lot. We want to try against an elite club like Bayern Munich. You have to deserve it, we try to do the first tomorrow.
The question (about winning the Champions League) comes since six, seven years ago. It comes every single season. We tried every single season, but there are teams that you face that they are good too.
Facing Thomas Tuchel after losing to him in the Champions League: “It’s happened, we reviewed the game a month later, and it wasn’t as bad as I thought. It was a tight game, but we forget it and we try again. Sometimes you win when you deserve, sometimes you lose. I don’t live in the past. It’s part of the game.”
Manchester City are in amazing form...: “What I can say is that the players have reacted really well. In this competition, it’s not about the form in the Premier League. It counts how you perform in the 90 minutes. This competition is good, it doesn’t count what you did three days ago. You have to be perfect in the 95 minutes. Tomorrow night, be ready.”
Did you sign Haaland to win the Champions League?: “He is so important for us.
We have always scored goals (in the Champions League), that was not the problem in general.”
Here's a piece on who the man with the whistle is tonight, one which will save you from cracking into a thousand pieces of frustration as you try to remember where you've seen him before.
The weather in Manchester is...
Grey and cloudy?! I don't know why.
Manchester is known locally as the Caribbean of the north, so these unusually horrible-looking grey clouds surely won't last for long.
Anyway, Bayern have arrived in Manchester and they are already at the Etihad Stadium, getting ready for the huge tie ahead.
How they got here: City
It seemed as though City’s group stage run was never in doubt as soon as they got going: a 0-4 away thrashing of Sevilla set them up to run away from the chasing pack, but consecutive goalless away draws to Copenhagen and Dortmund caused eyebrows to raise.
They weren’t at Carlo Ancelotti levels for long, however, as a 4-1 win over Sevilla was followed up by the 7-0 home crushing of RB Leipzig after a 1-1 away draw. Business as usual then, for Guardiola’s goal monsters, with their 100% UCL home record this season.
Team news: Manchester City
City have almost an entire squad to choose from, after Erling Harland recovered from injury last week. Phil Foden is the only absentee after having his appendix removed recently.
With that in mind, the City XI is expected to be largely consistent with what we saw against Southampton at the weekend, but with Pep and the Champions League, you never quite know.
Team news: Bayern
The big news for Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern is that centre-forward Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting is set to miss out with a knee injury; either Gnabry or Müller is likely to replace him.
Apart from that, it’s plain sailing for Bayern, who have won 8/8 Champions League games this season.
A quick round-up:
The Germans come into this tie on top of the Bundesliga and having seen off PSG in the previous round; Guardiola’s side are 4 points behind Arsenal in the domestic campaign but an 8-1 aggregate thrashing of RB Leipzig in the Champions League Round of 16 reminded everyone that City are not to be sniffed at.
