Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson suffered an injury in the second half of the Premier League game against Liverpool, which ended in a 1-1 draw and kept the title race alive.

The Brazilian was injured as he fouled Darwin Núñez and received medical attention for 6 minutes before carrying on. However, moments later he went to ground again and substitute Stefan Ortega replaced him shortly after.

“If you are on the bench, you always think about what can happen if you go on the pitch,” Ortega said on the change. “[Against Liverpool] was my time with Eddie’s injury. I was ready like always. It was a special moment to come on in this big game and the whole world watching. It was a nice feeling”, Ortega said.

Which fixtures will Ederson miss for Manchester City?

A day after the game, it has been confirmed that Ederson has suffered a muscular issue and is set to miss City’s next few games. City take on Newcastle in the FA Cup quarter-final and Ortega is expected to deputise.

The treble holders’ next Premier League game is at home to Arsenal on 31 March.

Manchester City's upcoming fixtures:

Newcastle (H) | FA Cup | 16 March

Arsenal (H) | Premier League | 31 March

Aston Villa (H) | Premier League | 3 April

Crystal Palace (A) | Premier League | 6 April

Luton Town (H) | Premier League | 13 April

Manchester City have reportedly already notified the Brazilian FA of the issue and that Ederson will not be fit for international duty.

After that, Manchester City play both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in the Premier League. By that point, it will have been a month since Ederson’s injury occured and City will assess to player to see if he fit to make a return to the pitch in one of the closest title races we have seen in recent memory. There are just ten games to go and deciding who is the favourite is becoming an extremely tough task.
