Manchester United vs Barcelona preview

Manchester United

From underdogs to favorites. Manchester United go into the second-leg game against Barcelona with good chances of advancing to the next round of the Europa League after sharing the spoils with the Catalan giants in Barcelona one week ago.

Barcelona punched first, but United bounced back with two goals in the second half. That was the moment when the English side could have sealed the win with some clear goal opportunities, but they didn’t take advantage of their superiority on the pitch and Barcelona found the back of the net for the final draw.

This is certainly another United, compared to the one that struggled to win games in the Premier League last year, but now the Red Devils are on an eight-game unbeaten streak across all competitions and sitting third in the league with 49 points, only three behind neighbors City and five behind leaders Arsenal, although the Gunners have one game in hand.

Moreover, Old Trafford has become a fortress, as Erik ten Hag’s men have won 14 of their last 15 games in the Theather of Dreams.

Barcelona

Meanwhile, Barcelona seem unbeatable in LaLiga, as they recorded another solid win against Cádiz (2-0) at Camp Nou.

Els Blaugranes, who haven’t tasted defeat in their last 18 matches, are sitting top on the standings, eight points clear of Real Madrid.

They have only conceded seven goals in 22 league games, while Marc-André ter Stegen saw their Champions League opponents score 12 goals in six games in the group stage, while Manchester United found the back of the net twice last week, so the team’s performances in Europe are significantly worse than in the domestic competition.

The visitors won’t have three key players in Pedri, Gavi, and Ousmane Dembélé, but they have won each of their last 11 away games in all competitions, so Xavi will be hoping his team will show their best level to come out on top.

Manchester United vs Barcelona: Prediction

Barcelona haven’t lost to the English squad since the 2007-08 Champions League semifinals and will be willing to emulate Real Sociedad and Atlético Madrid’s wins at Old Trafford in 2022.

However, Barça are without some of their most important players and United are probably living their best moment of the season, with Marcus Rashford in red-hot form, netting 23 goals so far this campaign, and playing at home.

Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Barcelona
