Mazatlán vs Juárez draws worst attendance figures in the Leagues Cup

According to the official competition figures, less than a thousand fans attended the game between the Cañoneros and Bravos in Austin.

Mazatlán made their second appearance at the 2023 Leagues Cup - all all Liga MX affair against Juárez at the Q2 Stadium in Austin. But the venue was practically empty for the clash between the two Mexican teams. According to the Leagues Cup’s own figures, the attendance didn’t even reach three figures.

The second round of games in this third edition of the tournament, between clubs from Mexican soccer and MLS, got underway on Tuesday - however, the game into Austin drew far less spectators than organizers had expected.

Low turnout

According to the technical data sheet for the match, which was provided by the Mexican Soccer Federation, the official attendance was 958 spectators. On social media, rumors began circulating that the crowd was just 208 specactors, however that data could not be verified.

The Q2 Stadium, located in the city of Austin, has a capacity of 20,738 people, which means that, based on official figures, approximately five percent of the capacity was reached.

It’s the worst attendance figures that has been registered in the four days of competition of the Leagues Cup, since in all of the other matches played so far, the average attendance has been over 50 percent.

The 1-1 draw leaves Mazatlán top of Group H and means they are the first Mexican team to qualify for the next round.
