Mbappé reveals the secrets behind his improved form at Madrid

The Frenchman spoke to Real Madrid TV after the victory against Sevilla and admitted that the day at San Mamés was a low point.

Mbappé shone brightly in their 4-2 win against Sevilla, delivering a bombshell that left Álvaro Fernández’s net trembling. It marked his fourth consecutive game celebrating a goal, and the second in which he also provided an assist—this time to Brahim.

Ancelotti had already stated the day before, “His adaptation is over.” Kylian confirmed it with his performance on the pitch and echoed it in his post-match comments to the club’s official media.

Sincere, demanding, mature, and ambitious: Mbappé has demonstrated his growth. As previously detailed in this newspaper, the match at San Mamés was a pivotal moment for him. That day, he hit rock bottom—missing a penalty and fading into the background when the spotlight was on him.

He reflected on all of it during his flash interview. Vinícius wasn’t there that day, just as he wasn’t today. The difference? That day, Mbappé wasn’t fully present either. Today, he was.

Was this the best match of the season?

We played very well. We have improved in recent months. It was a difficult match, after the trip to Qatar, too. We were a bit tired. But we did well, we scored some good goals. I think the Madrid fans will like the match. And so will we.

What has changed? Goals come more fluidly now...

We know each other better. I just arrived and that changed a lot of things. As the coach said, the adaptation is over. And now I play much better.

And what a goal!

We always whack them in like this in during training the day before the match. And Fede also scored in a similar way.

What is your assessment so far?

I can do a lot more. I have a lot more in my legs. The Bilbao game was good for me. I hit rock bottom, I missed a penalty... It was the moment when I realised that I have to give my all for this shirt and play with more personality.

And for 2025, what do you ask for?

First of all, the best for all Real Madrid fans and their families. On a personal level, that’s what matters. And as a player, many titles and many games like today’s.
