Meet Cherif Fofana, the 16-year-old Real Madrid prospect generating serious buzz
Still only 16, the dynamic midfielder is already catching attention inside Real Madrid as his rapid rise gathers pace.

One of the biggest novelties in the Real Madrid team under Álvaro Arbeloa has been his willingness to give youth academy players their chance in the first team. Thiago Pitarch has been the main beneficiary, although fellow midfielder Manuel Ángel started his first game in the recent defeat to Mallorca. Daniel Yáñez, Diego Aguado and César Palacios have also had minutes on the field in recent weeks.
But many within the Real Madrid setup believe Cherif Fofana, an all-action midfielder who is only 16, could be the biggest prospect of all.
Who is Cherif Fofana, Real Madrid academy prospect?
Born in Spain to a Malian father and a mother from Equatorial Guinea, Fofana only joined the Real Madrid academy in 2025 but has already made a big impression, training with Real Madrid Castilla, the B team, while Arbeloa was coach.
He has reportedly earned the nickname “Little Kanté” due to his similar playing style to former Chelsea and current France star N’Golo Kanté.
These clips explain why.
