The Mexican National Team will go into the Final Four of the Concacaf Nations League without Hirving Lozano. This Friday the Mexican Football Federation revealed the preliminary list of 40 players who were called up by Diego Cocca to face the United States (who also released their squad) in the semi-final. The final squad will be announced in the week prior to the game against the ‘Stars and Stripes’.

Among the names that stand out of these 40 players is ‘Tecatito’ Corona who returns to a call-up with the Mexican National Team after spending nine months away from the pitch. The winger missed the Qatar 2022 World Cup due to a broken fibula and only last week returned to playing with Sevilla, where he scored a goal.

Another notworthy presence is that of Luis Malagón, who has had a positive campaign with América, and the inclusion of Toño Rodríguez, who has earned his presence in the ‘Tricolor’ since Cocca arrived. The two are accompanied by Guillermo Ochoa, who is set to be the starting goalkeeper after a strong season in Italy’s Serie A.

The big names missing from the list

The big absences from the squad are Hirving Lozano and Javier Hernández. ‘Chucky’ is injured after spraining his knee in a game against Napoli and therefore will not be able to play against the United States. In the case of ‘Chicharito’, the LA Galaxy player has not received a call-up with Mexico since the end of 2019 and has been once again left out.

Héctor Herrera does not appear in the squad list and nor does Andrés Guardado, who announced recently that he will no longer wear the shirt of El Tri, after retiring from national football.
