The Azteca Stadium will soon undergo a significant remodelling ahead of the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The iconic Santa Úrsula venue will be closed from December onwards, meaning that the upcoming November international break is the last chance for the Mexican national team to take to the hallowed turf before the building work begins.

The stadium is scheduled to close its doors to allow a number of key changes to be made to get the Azteca ready for the World Cup. Both Club América and Cruz Azul, teams that usually play their home matches at the Azteca, will be forced to move to Ciudad de los Deportes. The replacement stadium, also known as the ‘Azul’, was previously the home ground for La Maquina for more than two decades.

Who will Mexico play in their last Azteca Stadium fixture?

The identity of El Tri’s opponents has not yet been confirmed, but we know that the game will be the quarter-final stage of the Concacaf Nations League. Jaime Lozano’s side will come up against the one of the four teams that advance from the group stage of the competition. As it stands Trinidad & Tobago, Panama, Jamaica and Cuba are in pole position to make it through and potentially face Mexico in the landmark fixture at the Azteca Stadium.

The group stage of the Concacaf Nations League will be concluded at the end of the current October FIFA date.

When is the November FIFA date?

The November FIFA fixtures, the final international break of 2023, will be held between November 13 and 21. Mexico is set to play two matches across these dates in the quarter-finals of the Concacaf Nations League.

After a chaotic year in Mexican soccer Jaime Lozano’s team will be eager to finish 2023 on a high and depart the iconic stadium with an important victory.
