MLS sides making moves to sign Pogba
The North American league are pushing hard to sign World Cup winner Paul Pogba.
MLS appears to be making a move for Paul Pogba. According to The Athletic, several teams in the North American league have added Pogba to their “Discovery List” in order to secure negotiating rights with the French star.
With Juventus working towards an amicable exit from his contract—set to run until June 2026—Pogba is closer to terminating his deal with the Italian club than integrating himself into Thiago Motta’s team.
English sources report that multiple MLS teams have included Pogba on their Discovery Lists, which would give them priority in negotiating with him for a potential move in the upcoming transfer window. While MLS has seen significant revenue growth in recent years, landing a star of Pogba’s caliber remains a long shot.
Pogba spotted in Miami
Although Pogba was recently spotted in Miami and even attended Tata Martino’s team’s first playoff game, the financial limitations of Inter Miami and LA Galaxy make it unlikely for either to sign him.
Both clubs have their Designated Player (DP) slots filled for next season, and alternative funding methods, like sponsor-backed salary contributions, aren’t viable. Inter Miami, for instance, recently backed away from pursuing Neymar due to these financial constraints.
On the West Coast, LAFC also faces limitations. While the team does have a DP slot available, they’ve earmarked it for the potential arrival of Antoine Griezmann. Following the recent additions of Olivier Giroud and Hugo Lloris, LAFC appear committed to styling their squad around another French star.
Pogba’s career has taken a turbulent turn. After Italy’s anti-doping agency (NADO Italia) detected banned testosterone in his system, he faced a four-year suspension, later reduced to 18 months on appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Although Pogba had expressed a desire to stay in Turin and even offered to reduce his $500,000+ weekly salary, Juventus seems focused on the future, with young talent Kenan Yildiz poised to take his place.
