Galatasaray fans unveil tifo dedicated to Victor Osimhen and his mother in emotion prematch tribute
Galatasaray kicked off the first leg of their Round of 16 tie with Liverpool from Istanbul, and the fans paid tribute to Victor Osimhen and his family.
Emotions are always sky high before a Champions League match this late into the campaign, but sometimes we are reminded that there are things bigger than sport. The Galatasaray supporters dedicated their tifo to striker Victor Osimhen and his family which brought the star to tears before the match.
Stunning tifo for Osimhen
Galatasaray’s Round of 16 match was preluded by a wonderful tribute to their striker who lost him mom when he was just a young boy. Born in Lagos, Nigeria the striker grew up with six siblings in a one bedroom apartment. His mom died when he was just a toddler, and he was forced to sell newspapers and bottle of water on the streets of Lagos.

Fast forwards two decades, and Victor Osimhen is one of the most prolific goal scorers in Europe. Making over a quarter of a million pounds a week, he has drawn interest from some of the top clubs on the continent. At the moment he is only focused on progressing to the next round of the Champions League with the Turkish club.
The image that blackened one end of the stadium, had an image of the striker and his mom, and the words “WE ARE FAMILY AND FAMILY IS EVERYTHING.” The incredible homage to their hero brought tears to the eyes of Osimhen, but he would wipe those tears off an make an immediate impact on the match early in the first half. After scoring the go ahead goal in extra time the second leg of the playoff against Juventus, he helped put Galatasaray ahead over Liverpool with an assist to Mario Lemina who tucked in the opening goal of the tie.
