Update:

Mohamed Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 season, calling time on a record-breaking career at Anfield. The news was announced on Tuesday with statements from both player and club, confirming that he will depart this summer.

Salah revealed that he is leaving in a “farewell” social media video and the club followed up with a statement, confirming that the 33-year-old will “bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool FC” at the end of the season.

The statement reads: “Signed from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, the No.11 has firmly established himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history, helping the club to two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cups, as well as an FA Community Shield.”

The last two years have been a period of great change for Liverpool, with the departure of legendary head coach Jurgen Klopp in 2024 and a major squad overhaul in the summer of 2025. Most impactful of all, the tragic death of much-loved forward Diogo Jota last year has cast a cloud over the club. Salah, a close friend of Jota’s, has spoken openly about his grief.

For Liverpool fans, Tuesday’s news gives them the opportunity to enjoy the final months of Salah in a Liverpool shirt. Not only is he one of the club’s greatest-ever players, but he has the chance to further add to his legacy in the remaining games. Liverpool are in the quarter-final stage of both the FA Cup and the Champions league and will have genuine ambitions in both.

The Liverpool statement ends: “With plenty still left to play for this season, Salah is firmly focused on trying to achieve the best possible finish to the campaign for Liverpool and, therefore, the time to fully celebrate his legacy and achievements will follow later in the year when he bids farewell to Anfield.”
