Watch: Lionel Messi stars in Argentina vs. USA World Cup ad alongside Christian Pulisic
A new World Cup-themed commercial is already making the rounds online, and it’s built exactly for viral traction.

Michelob Ultra has dropped a fresh spot featuring Lionel Messi alongside Lautaro Martínez and Nico Paz, leaning into a playful Argentina vs. USA setup ahead of the next FIFA World Cup cycle.
Michelob Ultra ad stars Messi in World Cup spot
Michelob Ultra’s World Cup spot feels more like a mini movie than an ad, and it’s stacked with exactly the kind of crossover star power that tends to explode online. At the center is Lionel Messi going head-to-head with Christian Pulisic in a chaotic, no-rules showdown inside a luxury hotel. But that’s just the start.

The spot, titled “The Superior Match”, pulls in a wild mix of global icons, including Alex Morgan, Guillermo Ochoa, and Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazário, plus a completely out-of-left-field appearance from Billy Bob Thornton.
The premise is set in a hotel lobby that turns into an impromptu soccer field, and suddenly it’s USA vs. the world, all over a bucket of beer.
It spirals quickly. The match spills into hallways, kitchens, and anywhere there’s space to keep the play alive, with a bellhop weaving through the chaos trying (and failing) to deliver drinks. Thornton plays it straight the entire time, adding a dry, almost confused narration to the madness.
And yes, the U.S. side, led by Pulisic, gets the upper hand in the ad. A nice little wink for American audiences with the 2026 tournament on home soil. That’s really the strategy here.
With the FIFA World Cup 2026 set to take over the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, this isn’t about selling beer. It’s about inserting into the moment early. Instead of a traditional product push, the campaign leans fully into fandom, with rivalries and personalities. Even the casting reflects that. Messi anchors it globally. Pulisic brings the U.S. audience. Morgan expands the reach. Ronaldo taps into nostalgia.
The campaign is built as a full content ecosystem with hundreds of variations, fan activations, and real-world experiences designed to live across social, bars, and watch parties once the tournament kicks off next month.
