Nashville chasing a historic result in Monterrey

Nashville is on the brink of elimination in the Concacaf Champions Cup. For the third straight game, it failed to take advantage of home field at Geodis Park, but unlike matches against Inter Miami and América, this time it ended in defeat.

Who else but Ángel Correa to beat Brian Schwake and hand BJ Callaghan’s side the loss. The margin is just one goal, but MLS clubs have traditionally struggled when playing in Mexico.

Proof of that is that only one MLS team has won in Mexico in this edition, and it was Nashville itself, which went to Estadio Banorte and beat América 1-0. This Tuesday, they will look to make it two wins on Mexican soil.

Which MLS teams have won in Mexico?

So far in the history of the Concacaf tournament, only seven MLS teams have managed to win in Mexico, and none of them has done it more than once.

FC Dallas (1-0 vs Pumas in 2011), Seattle Sounders (1-0 vs Monterrey in 2011), New York Red Bulls (2-0 vs Tijuana in 2018), Toronto FC (2-1 vs Chivas), Sporting Kansas City (2-0 vs Toluca in 2019), Columbus Crew (3-1 vs Monterrey in 2024), and Nashville SC (vs América at Estadio Banorte in 2026).

“We’re ready to get back to work. It’s win or go home, and we have the tools to go out there and get a result to move on to the next round,” said Nashville head coach BJ Callaghan.

“These are the dreams you grow up with: playing in packed stadiums, in high-stakes games, seeing yourself in that moment, preparing for it and taking advantage to make that big play,” the coach added.
