The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) published their yearly ranking of the top clubs in world football, a list that recognises the performances of teams that belong to the various Confederations of the planet. The table takes into account the results of each team, as well as the statistics such as goals scored and conceded, trophies won and matches lost.

The register of clubs consists of 300 teams, all of which are constantly reorganised into an order that relies on league position, allowing people to see the progress or decline of a particular club. Keeping this in mind, Mexican sides have suffered something of a slump given their results and performances, while other teams from Concacaf have moved up the list.

Which is the highest Concacaf team in the list?

Take Alajuelense, for example. They are a Costa Rican team that recently registered a jump up to the 82nd position in the IFFHS ranking, making them the highest positioned side from North and Central America; CD Olimpia, from Honduras, occupy 88th in the table.

As for the Liga MX sides, Tigres, the current champions, are the highest classified team on the leaderboard, sitting in 103rd. After that, come León (147), the new Concacaf Champions. Monterrey (150), América (172), Pachuca (173) and Chivas (262) all struggled to advance this season and for that reason sit so low. Pumas and Cruz Azul do not even make the list.

Which clubs are in the top 10?

The list is led by Real Madrid, who are followed by European champions, Manchester City. After that sit Flamengo, SL Benfica, Inter, Al Ahly, Manchester United, FC Porto, SSC Napoli and FC Bayern Munich.

Despite not being the best league in the world, Mexican players do indeed represent nation well outside of the borderlines, with Chucky Lozano’s Napoli in 9th and Erick Gutiérrez’s PSV in 14th.

Mexican representation in the list:

Chucky Lozano | Napoli: 9th
Erick Gutiérrez | PSV: 14th
Santi Giménez | Feyenoord: 17th
Julián Araujo | Barcelona: 27th
‘Tecatito’ Corona | Sevilla: 31st
Andrés Guardado | Betis: 52nd
Gerardo Arteaga | Genk: 191st
