NYCFC will host the 2022 Campeones Cup at Yankee Stadium

The reigning MLS Cup champions will host the team that wins the Campeón de Campeones in Liga MX on 14 September at Yankee stadium.

New York City Football Club announced that they will host the 2022 Campeones Cup at Yankee stadium on 14 September and ticket sales are now available in this link. The reigning MLS Cup champions will host the team that wins the Campeón de Campeones in Liga MX during the summer.

David Lee, NYCFC Sporting Director, commented: “Consistently competing for silverware is one of the top priorities for the Club, and the Campeones Cup is another great opportunity to deliver on this goal. As a match between the MLS Champions and Liga MX Champions, we take great pride in competing for the honor as the best team in North America.

“This competition against a top international opponent will also provide valuable experience for our players and help further their development. It is where the Club belongs, and we’re looking forward to the chance to win a trophy at home in front of our fans.”

When was the Campeones Cup established?

This tournament started in 2018 and it became an annual cup game hosted by the reigning MLS Cup champions against the Liga MX Campeón de Campeones winners. NYCFC will play the Campeones Cup for the first time in history after defeating Portland Timbers in last year’s MLS Cup.
