Neymar seals ‘Le Classique’ win for PSG

PSG faced Olympique Marseille at Parc des Princes with a goal on the stroke of half-time from the Brazilian striker enough to consolidate their lead at the Ligue 1 summit.

Paris-SG won the French ‘Le Classique’ against Olympique de Marseille (1-0) and strengthened their lead on at the top of the table in a tense Parc des Princes clash on Sunday night.

The Parisian giants scored through Neymar just before half-time (45+2) and remain the only unbeaten team in the French championship (29 points) and hold a three point advantage over surprise package Lorient in second.

Marseille (23 points) finished with ten men after Samuel Gigot was sent off (72nd) and fell to their second defeat of the season and slip in the table to 4th with 23 points.

Lyon slip-up

Earlier on Sunday, Lyon lost 3-2 at Rennes in the first match of new coach Laurent Blanc, who arrived this week to replace Peter Bosz.

Despite a brace from striker Alexandre Lacazette (23rd, 72nd), Lyon went down to their fifth defeat of the season, conceding three goals, scored by Martin Terrier (38th, 78th) and Amine Gouiri (47th).

The former PSG coach’s return to Ligue 1 was not as fruitful as he might have wished. In addition, the French coach saw his World Cup winner Corentin Tolisso leave the field shortly before the break due to injury.
