It’s been almost two decades since Pumas UNAM were last crowned CONCACAF champions - their third and last title came back in 2005 before the tournament underwent a revamp. They play host to a Seattle Sounders side who have reached the final for the first time - they made it as far as the semi-finals in 2013 and will be looking to win their first major continental title in club history, and first trophy since 2019 when they lifted the MLS Cup.

Pumas’ route to the final saw them brush past Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa, the New England Revolution and six-time winners Cruz Azul. They will be up against a Seattle side who ended the qualifying rounds with the best attacking figures and boast goal scorers and experience right the way through their squad. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs. Rave Green boss Brian Schmetzer said ahead of the first leg, “We have a lot of experience, starting with Stefan Frei, Yeimar, Xavi, Nouhou who has played in the Africa Cup of Nations, Nico, Raul, JP… we are very fortunate to have a very solid team. They have all played in international environments, so I think that experience is certainly going to help us in this final”.

Pumas go into the game with a number of absentees through suspension and injury. Arturo ‘Palermo’ Ortiz misses the game after being sent off in the semi-final against Cruz Azul. Forward Juan Ignacio Dinenno is Pumas’ top scorer in the tournament with seven goals so far but he is likely to sit out the first leg after picking up a muscular injury. Midfielder Leonel López is doubtful and will face a late fitness check.
