Six months before the Copa América kicks off in the United States, the biggest doubts concern the attack and Giovanni Reyna in particular. The 21-year-old hasn’t been getting regular playing time with Borussia Dortmund which has prompted suggestions that he might have to leave the German club in the winter transfer window.

According to German newspaper Bild, Claudio Reyna, the player’s father, met with the senior management at Borussia Dortmund this month to discuss his son’s future. Reyna is considering leaving the institution on loan - at least for the remainder of the season. Dortmund have faith in his talent but they also they recognize that due to the competition he faces with Marco Reus and Julian Brandt, he is not going to be guaranteed many minutes between now and the end of the campaign.

Jesse Marsch’s advice

Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch, a North American coach who is currently working with CBS Sports, analyzed the best options for the United States player believes two teams could offer him something he is not getting in Dortmund. “He needs a team in which he will have minutes, a club that plays in European competition. He also needs a dynamic team - one that can help him grow,” Marsch said.

Two clubs have everything that Gio Reyna is looking for - Eintracht Frankfurt, who Marsch says “is a competitive team and in which Reyna would fit very well. But the team where I would like to see him is Real Sociedad.”

The transfer window in Europe will open on 1 January and closes on the 31st. Soon we will find out whether Reyna has found a new outlet to continue his development.
