Liverpool moves early for Mexico’s breakout star Gilberto Mora — but his path to Europe is tightly controlled

The future of Gilberto Mora looks increasingly distant from Liga MX. After exploding onto the global stage as one of the standout revelations of the 2026 World Cup, the Xolos de Tijuana midfielder has become one of the most sought‑after young talents of his generation — and Liverpool is already making its move.

According to England‑based outlet TEAMtalk, the Reds have initiated first contact with Mora’s camp to understand the conditions of a potential transfer. There’s no formal offer yet, but the interest is real — and Liverpool wants to get ahead of the competition.

The agent who could shape everything

One major factor in Mora’s future is the presence of Rafaela Pimenta, one of world football’s most powerful agents, as part of his representation.

Pimenta inherited the client portfolio of the late Mino Raiola, and she now manages some of the sport’s biggest names: Erling Haaland, Matthijs de Ligt, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Marco Verratti, Justin Kluivert, among others.

Her influence, network, and history of orchestrating massive transfers make her a key figure in guiding Mora toward Europe’s elite.

TEAMtalk reports that, beyond Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City are all actively tracking Mora. Manchester United, however, has cooled its interest due to the potentially high cost of a future transfer.

A talent destined for Europe

Tijuana recently renewed Mora’s contract, but the deal includes provisions designed to facilitate a move to Europe once regulations allow it.

Because Mora is still a minor, FIFA rules prohibit an international transfer until he turns 18. Until then, he’ll continue gaining experience in Liga MX — but everyone knows his time in Mexico is limited.

Mora’s days in Liga MX are numbered
