Raúl Jiménez has lost his place in Wolves’ starting eleven and with the signing of Matheus Cunha, his situation at the club has become even more difficult.

The Mexican striker has not been able to return to the heights he enjoyed before his skull fracture and the Wolves board have signed a couple of strikers to improve the side in front of goal. With new head coach Julen Lopetegui in the dugout, Jiménez is the third-choice forward at the Premier League club.

Lack of games this season

So far this season, Raúl Jiménez has played five games in all competitions. The hernia injury he suffered is one of the reasons behind his inactivity at Wolves, as the striker spent 45 days on the sidelines and did not arrive at the 2022 World Cup in peak condition. His goal tally for the current campaign is two goals and he has yet to score in the Premier League. His current season is far from his best with Wolves, where he has already played more than 150 games and scored 56 goals.

Competition at Wolves

With Jiménez’s injury and his poor form, Wolves looked elsewhere to find answers. The first to arrive was Diego Costa who is currently the team’s starting striker, taking into account that Lopetegui plays with only one No.9 in a 4-3-3. However, Costa has not worked out well as he has yet to score a goal in a Wolves shirt.

In view of this, the board went for another player and Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha arrived on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Wolves and Jiménez in danger of relegation

Wolves’ season has been one to forget so far and they face Manchester United next. Lopetegui’s side are in the relegation zone with 13 points from three wins, four draws and nine losses. Lopetegui’s mission will be to keep the team in the division they returned to in 2018.
