Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior says child racially abused him during LaLiga draw at Sevilla

While praising Sevilla for ejecting a racist fan, the Brazil international says a minor made offensive gestures towards him.

While praising Sevilla for ejecting a racist fan, the Brazil international says a minor made offensive gestures towards him.

Real Madrid were involved in an ill-tempered LaLiga clash away to Sergio Ramos’ Sevilla on Saturday, with the bad blood on the field spilling into the stands. Sadly, it seems there was yet another instance of racist abuse being directed at Los Blancos’ Vinícius Júnior, with one fan identified and ejected from Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán by security.

After the game, the Brazilian praised Sevilla for removing the supporter from the stadium but also claimed a child had made a racist gesture towards him.

What did Vinícius say about being racially abused in Seville?

Vinícius issued the following statement on social media:

Well done to Sevilla for acting so quickly after another sad, shameful moment for Spanish soccer. Unfortunately, I have been shown a video of another racist act at Saturday’s game, this time this time carried out by a child. It’s so sad that nobody is there to educate her. I invest - and I invest a lot - in educating people in Brazil to make sure they have different attitudes.

“The face of today’s racist is all over websites, as was the case on other occasions. I hope that the Spanish authorities will do what they need to do and change the legislation once and for all. These people also need to be criminally punished.

“It would be a great first step in preparation for the 2030 World Cup. I’m here to help. I’m sorry to sound repetitive, but it’s happened 19 times. And counting...”

Madrid winger a constant target of fan racist abuse

The winger has been targeted by racists at a number of stadiums in Spain over the last few years, with the most high-profile incident occurring in Valencia in May. On that occasion Vinícius identified and confronted fans, causing the match to be stopped for several minutes. Earlier this month, he testified in court against three supporters accused of racially abusing him.
