Nico Paz is now aware that Real Madrid plans to activate the buyback clause included in his transfer agreement with Como, a deal signed in the summer of 2024 that sent the Argentine international to Italy.

His development and impact in Serie A have left little doubt inside the club. Real Madrid now believe the timing is right for his return.

Nico Paz’s buyback clause already in motion

When the transfer was completed, all parties agreed to a structured deal that included a future buyback option, a standard practice in these types of moves. The idea is to protect the selling club’s long-term interest while allowing the player to develop elsewhere.

That said, the financial terms of a return can change depending on performance, and in Nico Paz’s case, his growth has exceeded expectations.

The deadline for Madrid to activate the clause is May 30. However, sources indicate the club already considers his return to Valdebebas a priority and has informed all relevant parties of its intention.

Como and Cesc Fàbregas already preparing for Paz exit

Como and head coach Cesc Fàbregas are aware their time with Nico Paz may be coming to an end.

Relations between the two clubs remain strong. In fact, Como sporting officials were recently in Madrid as part of ongoing discussions, including renewed interest in other Real Madrid academy players for a third straight summer.

Two names stand out for the Italian club: winger Daniel Yáñez and right-back Jesús Fortea. Both players are highly rated internally at Real Madrid, and Como have already communicated their interest to club officials.

Real Madrid view Como and Fàbregas as a strong development destination for young players from their academy, often referred to internally as La Fábrica. Both Yáñez and Fortea played key roles in Real Madrid’s second UEFA Youth League title. Yáñez has already made his debut with the senior team.

The Victor Muñoz situation

Nico Paz is not the only academy player attracting attention. Several clubs have shown interest in Víctor Muñoz, now at Osasuna, as well.

However, Real Madrid maintain strong control over his situation, as they do with most players developed at Valdebebas. Depending on the circumstances, the club can either facilitate a return or block an unwanted transfer.

As part of his departure structure, his deal also included a buyback clause and a right of first refusal, which could be activated after the buyback window expires if another club attempts to move for him.

Paz’s impressive numbers in Serie A

Nico Paz’s performances in Italy underline why Real Madrid are moving quickly.

Across Serie A and the Coppa Italia, he has played 37 matches, scoring 13 goals and adding eight assists. Beyond the numbers, his influence on Como’s style of play under Fàbregas has been widely praised, marking him as one of the most impactful young midfielders in Italy this season.
