Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham will not face any punishment for an alleged insulting remark to Getafe’s Mason Greenwood. Official sources have reported that LaLiga have been unable to prove what the England star supposedly said to his compatriot, with the case dismissed and the investigation closed as a result.

What happened between Bellingham and Greenwood?

The pair had a verbal exchange following a challenge in midfield, with Getafe claiming Bellingham had shouted “rapist”, rather than “rubbish,” at the on-loan Manchester United attacker after a number of social media users had highlighted the potential flashpoint in the second half of the game at Estadio Colisuem on February 1.

Getafe demanded the alleged remark be included in LaLiga’s incident report at the end of the game and an investigation begun, with the league’s Competition Committee taking charge.

An expert lip-reader was then commissioned in an attempt to determine what Bellingham actually said, with the result of the investigation seemingly inconclusive. With there being no way of knowing what was uttered with any certainty, the case has been dropped and the Madrid star will not face any punishment for the alleged remark.

Bellingham suspended after Valencia red card

Bellingham will, however, be suspended for Los Blancos’ next two LaLiga games after being sent off after the 2-2 draw away to Valencia on Saturday.

After having an on-the-whistle goal controversially not awarded, the 20-year-old was ruled to have approached referee Jesús Gil Manzano in an overly aggressive manner, and will have to sit out games against Celta Vigo (10 March) and Osasuna (16 March) as a result.

His next appearance for Madrid is expected to come in the fixtiure against Athletic Club at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, which will take place on Sunday 31 March (kick-off at 3pm ET).
