Report: LA Galaxy and LAFC are interested in signing Axel Witsel

The Belgium international’s contract with Borussia Dortmund expires in June and both teams in Major League Soccer could bring him in as a free agent.

Axel Witsel’s contract at Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of June and a transfer to Major League Soccer could be a possibility. Los Angeles Galaxy and LAFC are interested in signing the Belgium international because he will be a free agent.

Other clubs interested in signing Witsel

The report also links the 33-year-old to Benfica, Lisbon and his boyhood club Standard Liege. So it will be a busy summer for Witsel, who wants to stay as competitive as possible because he wants to play for Belgium in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November.

Earlier this week, the head coach of the Los Angeles Galaxy, Greg Vanney, confirmed that he is looking to sign a midfielder and a full-back. So Witsel would be what Vanney is demanding from the franchise as the summer transfer window opens up for the second part of the campaign.

The possibility of Witsel joining the Galaxy is higher because LAFC signed Kellyn Acosta from Colorado Rapids and Ilie Sánchez from Sporting Kansas City in the winter. Both players have settled down quickly with LAFC and it would be difficult for Witsel to earn a starting role.
