The name of FC Barcelona winger Ansu Fati has been in the headlines throughout the season, but perhaps not in the way that many would have expected when he made his debut for the club at just 16-years-old. The career of the young forward can be described in two, a binary spilt down the middle, one side labelled ‘before’ and the other ‘after’. The dividing factor, a terrible meniscus tear.

Until that point in 2020, Ansu had played just 596 minutes for the club, scoring five goals and creating two assists. It was an explosive start to the career of a player who looked like a generational talent, one with not just an amazing skillset and technical ability, but that intangible sense of class: that certain, indescribable feeling that lets football fans know they have something special before their eyes.

A lot of Barça's hope for the future was pinned on Ansu Fati when he took the number 10 from the outgoing Messi.

Ansu Fati’s unfortunate injury spell at Barcelona

The injury was only supposed to keep him out for around four months, but the player was out for a total of nine. Nevertheless, he inherited the fabled number 10 shirt when Messi left and the club’s hopes were placed on the return of the youngster. But it has not turned out that way. Barcelona have moved on from Ansu being their shining light: the club sit top of the league having hardly utilised the skillset of the 20-year-old, with Ansu being consigned to the bench and having to wait for the manager to select him to make an impact.

When Fati was first injured, it looked like a blow for the club who were all of a sudden scrambling to find a way to replace him; it seems now like the player no longer features in Xavi’s plans for the future. As such, and as you might expect, such a delicious prospect hanging over the edge of the boat has attracted the bloodthirsty Premier League sharks, who are now circling.

Which Premier League clubs want to sign Ansu Fati?

Reports from Barcelona say that Ansu’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has guaranteed that an offer of at least €70 million from an English club for the player. Nobody knows which club Mendes may be hinting at with this information, but Ansu has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United.
