Mohamed Salah suffered more bad luck in a major final as he was forced to leave the field after just half an hour of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.

It wasn’t clear how the Egyptian star fell injured. He was seen sat on the pitch signalling to the Liverpool dug-out on 30 minutes during a Chelsea attack. Senior physiotherapist Chris Morgan attended Salah, who pointed to his right adductor. While Morgan examined Salah’s legs, it became clear that the player could not continue in the game. He made his own way off the pitch and was consoled by Jürgen Klopp; Diogo Jota came on as his replacement.

Two weeks away from the Champions League final

It’s worrying for Salah and for Liverpool, with the Champions League final against Real Madrid just a fortnight away. How long Salah faces on the sidelines will depend on the severity of the injury - if it is just a minor sprain, he may have enough time to recover.

Liverpool went on to win the game on penalties and encouragingly, Salah seemed in good spirits and was all smiles as he went up to collect his winners’ medal and join in the group celebrations out on the pitch at the end.

Salah wasn’t the only player who needed the magic sponge during the first half at Wembley. Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy and centre-back Thiago Silva both needed treatment, as did Liverpool keeper Alisson, who got caught on the shin by Marcos Alonso.
