Santi Giménez: 4th top Latin American goal scorer in 2023
The Feyenoord striker is the only Mexican in a list of the top 10 Latin American goals scorers. Diego Valdez and Julián Quiñones also appear.
Santi Giménez’s career continues to improve year after year and has really taken off since the Mexican striker emigrated to the old continent. After winning the Liga MX with Cruz Azul, the 22-year-old moved to the Netherlands where he ended his debut season as Feyenoord’s top scorer. He is currently joint top scorer in the Eredivisie with five goals in three games (the same as Alkmaar’s Vangelis Pavlidis) - exceptional numbers for a young player who hopes to make his mark at the best clubs in European football.
Giménez also figures among the most prolific Latin American goal scorers in the ranking established by Sofascore, the platform specialized in real-time results and statistics. The Aztec striker is among the best in his position.
Top 5 spot
The basis of the list is simple, the top 10 players, born in America, with the most goals throughout 2023 were ranked in order. A second list compiled the 10 players who have generated the most assists so far this year. Santi finds himself some of the game’s biggest stars such as Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martínez, Mauro Icardi... among others.
Interestingly, Julián Quiñones, who is still in the process of being naturalized as a Mexican citizen, still figures as a Colombian in the registry. He appears as the eighth top scorer.
Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi appears in both lists - as the second top scorer with 26 goals so far in 2023 and fourth in the list of players who have made the most assists, with 12.
The top creators
The presence of Chilean Diego Valdés on the list is also worth highlighting, because thanks to his great performances with América, he has not only become one one of the best footballers in Liga MX, but also one of the top players on the continent.
