Santiago Giménez is in fine scoring form for Dutch side Feyenoord this season, with his goals average predicting that if he continues as he is, then records will certainly be broken by El Tri’s hottest prospect.

The Mexican striker’s time in the Eredivisie, and in general in Europe, has not gone unnoticed, both in terms of his individual development and what he has achieved with his team. Without a doubt it has already been a profitable performance in every sense of the word since he made the leap from Liga MX: after just a year he is now beginning to generate numbers worthy of being included in the history books.

Santiago Giménez, Mexico’s most valuable player, is currently the top scorer of the Dutch competition, and for obvious reasons at Feyenoord, there is one statistic in particular which is attractive given the daunting yet entirely noteworthy place in which he finds himself so soon after arriving in the Netherlands. Giménez is truly rubbing shoulders with the league’s - and continent’s - best ever scorers.

Santi shares the same list as Ronaldo, Romario and Van Basten

According to the historical statistics of the best goal averages in the Eredivisie, Santiago is seventh best with 0.92 goals per 90 minutes, a number that places him only behind Romario and Ronaldo with 0.99, and Marco Van Basten who reached the figure of 1.07 during his career in the Netherlands.

Giménez, who was named ‘Man of the Year’ in the Netherlands, has always seen his goalscoring numbers as a standout feature, ever since his youth team days. He scored 22 in 55 games for Cruz Azul’s u-20 side before making the move to the first team where he bagged 21 goals, causing Feyenoord to make the move. At the Dutch club he has only improved, scoring a total of 43 goals in 67 games.

Suárez’s record in sight

Likewise, it is worth mentioning that after already scoring 20 goals as things stand, and taking into account that he still has 18 league matches left to play, once the season resumes in January, he could surpass the goalscoring totals of both Luis Suárez (35 goals) and Marco Van Basten (37 goals) from the 2009-2010 and 1985-1986 seasons.

Based on his aforementioned goal-scoring average, Giménez could end his season with approximately 37 or 38 goals, an impressive tally that would put him as the fourth best of all time in the division.
