Managers and even intermediaries connected to Egyptian giants close to Zamalek SC have recently expressed the club’s interest in acquiring the services of Sergio Ramos, with the veteran defender still without a team since his second spell as a Sevilla player concluded in June.

The Cairo based club are one of the most decorated in Africa securing 14 Egyptian league titles and with 28 cup wins are considered one of the most successful in the nation, but currently live in the shadow of city rivals Al Ahly as El Nady El Malaky are also currently embroiled in difficulties off the pitch.

Ali Hisham Nasr, a senior official at the club and son of the vice president, told TV that negotiations have begun for Ramos: “Zamalek is a big club and deserves players like this. We see the agreement with Ramos as not only good from a sporting point of view, but also for marketing. The player is free and it would be a great benefit to sign him. Any club in the world wants Ramos.”

Omar Zaalouk, a middleman who often works with El Zamalek, has publicly stated that he is aware of a potential agreement between the player and the club: “I have contacted Sergio’s agents and the player has no objection to coming to Egypt. The financial differences between the Spanish defender and the club are not that great. The talks are not over, they have simply been postponed until after the African Super Cup is played.” This Friday, Zamalek and cross town rival Al Ahly go head-to-head for the CAF Super Cup.

Ramos’ entourage, meanwhile, claims that there has been no official offer from Zamalek. The player, they claim has had a significant offer from Saudi Arabia via Al Orobah with interest also hailing from from San Diego FC, the new MLS franchise with also rumours of interest for the Camas bord defender from Brazil in recent weeks.
