Sergio Ramos update as Rayados look to reach the semifinals
Veteran defender misses quarterfinal second leg, but could return if Monterrey progress.

There had been hope at Monterrey that Sergio Ramos might return for the second leg of the Clausura 2025 quarterfinal against Toluca, but that won’t be the case – the Spaniard will not travel with the squad.
The former Real Madrid star picked up a muscle injury in his right thigh during the final game of the regular season against León, when he asked to be substituted. He hasn’t played since.

Ramos has already missed the Play-In matches against Pachuca and Pumas, as well as the first leg of the quarterfinals against Toluca. After that game, assistant coach Sebastián Grazzini expressed optimism that Ramos might return in time for the decisive leg.
“He’s honestly doing really well, working hard. We’ll see in the next few days if we can count on him. Obviously, he gives us something extra, and I truly believe he’ll be able to play,” Grazzini told reporters.

Ramos joined parts of the group training session on Friday, May 9 – his first involvement since the injury – but it wasn’t enough for him to be considered for the match at Estadio Nemesio Diez, where Rayados will fight for a place in the Clausura 2025 semifinals.
Still, his return to training is a positive sign, and if Monterrey make it through, he may be available in the next round.

Rayados take a 3–2 lead into the second leg after a narrow win in Nuevo León. A win or a draw would send them through, while Toluca need a home victory to advance.
