Sevilla enter the race for Gio Reyna, Nottingham Forest and Marseille interested
It appears that the USMNT international now has various European suitors vying for his signature ahead of the final days of the transfer window.
Premier League side Nottingham Forest were, over the last few hours, very close to securing the loan of Giovanni Reyna, the Borussia Dortmund playmaker who looks set to depart the Bundesliga this winter in search of more minutes on the pitch.
However, things got complicated as Sevilla joined the race and threatened to put a spanner in the English club’s plan. The main sticking point for Forest is that the American player, who is just 21-years-old and with a huge. future ahead of him, wants to play in LaLiga rather than go to the Premier League. High-flyers Real Sociedad, in fact, were even interested in the forward until a few days ago, but the economic proposals made did not convince the Basque club.
What position does Gio Reyna play?
The USMNT player can play on the wing and also as a second striker, but his ideal position is that of a creative midfielder, someone with the freedom to roam throughout the final third of the pitch, where he can have an influence on what happens in front of the opposition goal.
Son of the legendary American midfielder Claudio Reyna and raised in the youth categories of both NYCFC and Dortmund, Gio came back from injury a few months ago and has not found a starting position at Dortmund. This season he has played in just 10 Bundesliga matches, two in the Champions League and another in the German Cup, most of them as a substitute.
How much would Dortmund sell Reyna for?
The next few hours will be crucial if Sevilla want to get ahead of Forest in signing the player, who can also be registered with a youth team record because he is under 23-years-old. In any case, the priority for the LaLiga club, especially if they manage to get rid of striker Rafa Mir, is still to sign a striker that provides something different to Quique Sanchez-Flores’ squad that are whirling around the plughole of the table, just one point from the relegation zone.
However, ESPN have reported that Dortmund have agreed a loan deal with both Nottingham Forest and Ligue 1 club Marseille, who were an 11th hour entry to the party. According to the report from the media outlet, Dortmund would want around €15 million ($16.3m) to see him leave on a permanent deal in the summer, when any initial loan would expire.
