South Africa boosted by World Cup bonus: $43,000 in jewelry
The Bafana Bafana were gifted jewelry valued at more than $43,000 during their stay in Atlanta. The team faced South Korea on Wedneday.

The World Cup always delivers stories that go far beyond the pitch — and sometimes, rewards that would be unthinkable anywhere else.
South Africa earned a hard‑fought draw against the Czech Republic thanks to a late penalty, a result celebrated across the country and even in parts of Atlanta, considering how unlikely it looked early on.
But the team’s stay in the U.S. also came with an unexpected perk: a collaboration with American jewelry and watch brand Icebox, which gifted the squad more than $43,000 USD worth of accessories. The company posted a video on Instagram showing the Bafana Bafana players inside its Atlanta store, “choosing” the pieces they wanted.
“Working with the South African national team during their stay in Atlanta for the 2026 World Cup has been a privilege,” Icebox wrote on social media.
A morale boost after a rough debut
The clutch goal by Teboho Mokoena gave South Africa a much‑needed lift following a rocky opening match against Mexico, where the team finished with two red cards. But after Matchday 2, both the players and coaching staff walk away with something that feels like a win — on and off the field.
The Bafana Bafana head into the final group game against Korea Republic with a slim chance of progressing to the knockout round. The team sits bottom of Group A with just one point. If Mexico beat Czech Republic there could still be a chance for South Africa to qualify - but they would need a result at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe on Wednesday. A win would place them second - a draw, third, but because of their goal difference, would probably not to be enough to finish in the top eight, best third-placed teams.
