The transfer window in Spain closed on 1 February and the next one won’t open until July but rebuilding is a continual process and clubs are already positioning themselves for the next flurry of arrivals and departures.

LaLiga interest in Berterame

At Liga MX side Monterrey, one player has caught the attention of a couple of Spanish clubs - both of them top flight teams and one with a history of fostering Mexican talent - Real Betis (who up until recently had Andrés Guardado and Diego Lainez on their books) and Valencia.

According to market expert, Ekrem Konur: “Valencia and Real Betis are monitoring the situation of Monterrey’s 25-year-old Argentine forward, Germán Berterame.” A rumor that has cause a certain amount of concern within the Albiazul entity as the player could be enticed to try his luck in one of the most prominent leagues in Europe and one where Spanish is the lingua franca.

This is the second scenario that has distanced Berterame from Rayados in recent weeks. A short while ago, there was strong speculation about interest from North American side Portland Timbers in the South American forward, with some reports claiming the MLS franchise were ready to offer a $15 million fee. In the end, the Timbers inclined towards América’s Jonathan Rodríguez and the interest in Germán came to nothing.

At things stand Rayados head coach Fernando Ortíz, still considers Berte as an important piece within his current scheme, and as of the moment, neither Betis nor Valencia have launched for the player, who joined Monterrey as a free agent in the summer of 2022. Details of Berterame’s contract are not known
