The Frenchman is top of Real Madrid’s shortlist for 2024.

Kylian Mbappé is back on everyone’s lips now that Real Madrid are looking for a striker after the sudden departure of Karim Benzema. The French forward remains the club’s main target as they look to the future.

Florentino says “yes”

A group of fans asked Madrid president Florentino Pérez about Mbappé in a video that spread like wildfire across social media over the weekend. “Are you going to sign Mbappé, Florentino?” they asked him. The president turned and answered with a “Yes” as forceful as his smile was wide. “But not this year,” the Madrid chief added.

Mbappé in the spotlight once again

The short contract Mbappé signed with PSG (three years with an exit clause in 2024 that was unilaterally left in the player’s hands) made it inevitable that, sooner rather than later, his future would be linked to Madrid. And the summer of 2024 is an important one in the club’s plans. It will be the beginning of an era, with the new Bernabéu completed by then. Mbappé is in the running to be the galactico that represents another stage in the history of the club.

Madrid are not giving up, they never have, on the possibility of bringing the Frenchman and Erling Haaland together. But Haaland is now enjoying a historic moment with Champions League winners Manchester City. “Guardiola is the best coach in the world,” the Norwegian proclaimed on the pitch in Istanbul.

A questionable project at PSG

At the Parc des Princes, the situation is the opposite of the one being enjoyed by City right now. Mbappé was promised a winning team with Luis Campos, architect of the Monaco where the 2018 World Cup winner developed. It has been another disappointing year for PSG. Their season has been overshadowed by disappointing performances in the Champions League, where the Paris outfit were defeated in the last 16 of the competition. Lionel Messi won’t be there next season, and there are doubts about Neymar’s future at the club.

Mbappé to decide

Mbappé has made sure he will soon have the ability to decide his future. If PSG’s direction doesn’t change, their star player could be on his way.
