América has officially announced the signing of Rodrigo Dourado for the Clausura 2026, leaving Cruz Azul as the only one of Mexico’s ‘big four’ clubs yet to make a move in this winter transfer window - just days before Liga MX’s latest short tournament kicks off.

Who have the other ‘big four’ members signed for the Clausura?

Chivas, meanwhile, has already been active, bringing in Brian Gutiérrez, welcoming back Ricardo Marín, and pulling off what they’re calling their big splash: the return of Ángel Sepúlveda. The forward, who previously starred at Cruz Azul, now comes back to Guadalajara with a proven goal‑scoring résumé.

As mentioned, Dourado remains América’s lone signing so far, and any additional moves hinge on the club finding destinations for a number of current players. For example, Chileans Igor Lichnovsky and Víctor Dávila are no longer in André Jardine’s plans, which means the roster must be trimmed before further reinforcements arrive.

Pumas’ situation looks familiar compared with recent tournaments. They have made three additions - César Garza, Tony Leone, and the most eye‑catching pickup, Juninho Vieira. The Brazilian, once a standout at Flamengo, now joins a UNAM side that holds the unfortunate distinction of the longest title drought among the big clubs.

Cruz Azul’s transfer-market options

Even though Cruz Azul hasn’t brought in any new faces yet, the club is actively surveying the winter market. Among the names on their radar are Agustín Palavecino, Miguel Borja, and César Montes. With time still on the clock before the Clausura 2026 begins, La Máquina remains positioned to secure at least one key signing.

In Palavecino’s case, Cruz Azul is currently ahead in the race. The club maintains direct contact with the player, and negotiations between both front offices are ongoing. Although América is also interested in the River Plate midfielder, Cruz Azul appears to be the frontrunner - especially after parting with an attacking player this offseason.
