The choice of Qatar to host the World Cup has not been without controversy. This goes beyond the number of deaths that have occurred in the process of building the stadiums and has to do with some rules and prohibitions within the country. Some that have attracted the most attention are the restrictions on alcohol consumption, displays of affection and taking pictures, among others.

Photos not welcome

When it comes to capturing images, there are some limitations and prohibitions. One of these involves the ban against taking photographs of public and government buildings. Also, be careful with snapshots in which other people may be included.

One important thing that must be remembered is that taking photos of Qatari women is not allowed, and is considered an offensive act.

If a third party appears in one of our photographs, other than a female, authorization must be requested from that person both to capture the image and to be able to use it, regardless of the purpose of the photo.

Other prohibitions

In addition to the rules on photographs, people from other countries who come as tourists to Qatar must abide by the rules of the host country. For example, alcohol consumption is restricted. It is only allowed in certain authorized places such as the FIFA Fan Festival, and all of them are quite a istance from the soccer stadiums.

Displays of affection are also not welcome, especially between people of the same gender, given that homosexuality is classified as a crime in the country. In addition, the country requires fans to wear clothing respecting certain dress codes. For example, wearing clothes that cover shoulders and knees when they go to a public place, such as museums.
