New Tigres coach Robert Dante Siboldi started his tenure on the bench of the UANL side in emphatic fashion as his side overpowered Honduran side Motagua 5-0 with the win propelling Tigres into the semi-final of the 2023 Concacaf Champions League.

Things took a while for the Liga MX side to click into gear but a late flurry of goals added extra sheen to the win.

Coming intro the game from a 0-1 win in Tegucigalpa, early nerves were eased when André Pierre-Gignac opened the scoring just before the 30 minute mark and from that moment, there was little doubt about the semifinalist after the Frenchman beat Jonathan Rougier with his shot finding the net after striking the post.

Indeed the scoreline could have been more emphatic hadn’t it been for Rougier in the Motagua goal who produced save after save to keep Tigres at bay as he saved well from a volley in the 33′ from Gignac after an assist from Luis Quiñones. He then delivered more heroics as he spectacularly saved a header from Nicolás López, who stole in five minutes later and pushed the ball wide for a corner.

As the tie progressed, not even the best efforts of the Motagua keeper could keep the home side at bay with Gignac bagging the second in the 67th minute.

The ‘auriazules’ smelt blood and Luis Quiñones bagged a third before Jesús Angulo and Nicolás Ibáñez rounded off the 5-0 rout. The 6-0 aggregate scoreline sees Tigres progress to the semi-final where they face Club León in a two legged game with the first leg scheduled for 26 April.
