Top MLS side drops out of De Bruyne deal
After a possible summer signing with San Diego FC was ruled out, several MLS clubs have approached the Belgian player, including Chicago Fire.
Kevin De Bruyne’s future appears to be heading toward Major League Soccer (MLS). In recent weeks, following news that the Belgian star will not continue with Manchester City, several MLS clubs have been linked with the former Chelsea midfielder—including San Diego FC and even Inter Miami.
However, AS USA recently reported that De Bruyne is not an option for San Diego FC. The Southern California club is pursuing a different type of project and direction, making the multi-time Manchester City champion incompatible with their current plans.
On Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Chicago Fire has already initiated contact with De Bruyne’s representatives to discuss a potential signing this summer—the same summer his contract with the Sky Blues expires.

De Bruyne previously open to MLS move
Although discussions are still in the early stages, the report indicates that De Bruyne is open to reviewing all offers on the table, including this new approach from Chicago Fire, before making a decision.
This development further reinforces the idea that De Bruyne’s next chapter could be in the MLS—something he has previously acknowledged as an attractive option once his time at Manchester City came to an end.
With an ambitious project focused on building a competitive future, Chicago Fire aims to become an MLS Cup contender in the coming years.
As part of this vision, the Windy City club has shown interest in high-profile signings—Kevin De Bruyne among them. Earlier this year, Chicago Fire was also reportedly in the running to sign Neymar, competing with Inter Miami for the Brazilian’s signature.

Ultimately, Neymar chose to return to Santos in Brazil, but Chicago’s intention was clear: to attract global stars and compete both on and off the pitch. That ambition now continues with their pursuit of Kevin De Bruyne.
