Trinity Rodman is now the highest paid player in the NWSL but how much is she making?

While some might say she’s her father’s child, it’s quite clear now that she’s her own woman. The only question now is, ‘how high will her star rise?’

With the debate about equal pay in football still well and truly unresolved, such deals go a long way towards leveling the playing field, although there is still a long way to go.

Trinity Rodman is now highest paid player in NWSL

According to reports Trinity Rodman, the daughter of NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman, is now the highest-paid player in the history of the National Women’s Soccer League. Having just put pen to paper on a contract extension, the 2021 Rookie of the Year is set to embark on a four-year deal worth $1.1 million with the Washington Spirit. This of course, is a significant step up from her previous three-year contract which saw her earning $42,000.

With her new contract now ‘signed, sealed and delivered,’ Rodman will earn a reported $281,000 yearly, which actually takes her above the salaries of two USWNT stars like Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe who earn a reported $250,000.

Trinity Rodman is worth it

As mentioned above, Rodman was previously on a three-year contract with which she earned an average base pay of $42,000 with housing and bonuses included. Between then and now, however, she has most definitely made a name for herself. Selected as the league’s youngest player in the NWSL Draft of 2021, Rodman has gone on to win both the Rookie of the Year award and the Young Player of the Year award which was given to her by US Soccer. Indeed, she was the only player from her team selected for the USWNT’s training camp.

Needless to say, Rodman has already been compared with the likes of the aforementioned Morgan and Rapinoe, though many believe - given her age - that she will actually surpass both of them; on the road to becoming a genuine star of women’s soccer.

Like father like daughter: Trinity has Dennis Rodman’s intensity

As NBA fans will recall, Trinity’s father Dennis Rodman aka “The Worm” was one of the most intense defensive players in the history of the league. With five NBA titles to his name, the two-time NBA All-Star also won the Defensive Player of the Year award on two occasions while being included in the NBA’s All-Defensive Team a staggering eight times. That’s all to say, it runs in the family. A fierce competitor, who most definitely has an eye for goal, Rodman has scored a total of 16 goals across 47 appearances. Though just 19-years-old, the 2nd overall pick in the 2021 Draft has undoubtedly got a bright future ahead of her and now fittingly, a salary that reflects that.
