Angus Eve names T&T XI
This is the Trinidad & Tobago XI that will hope to deliver a major Gold Cup upset in Charlotte tonight.
'Nothing to lose' mentality for Soca Warriors
The Soca Warriors go into their final Group A match with three points, one behind Jamaica and the USA, having won 3-0 over St Kitts and Nevis in their opening match. They are therefore still in with a chance of going to the knockout phase, provided they defeat the Americans.
With the USA ranked #11 in the world head coach Angus Eve reasoned that pre-tournament odds suggested that his Soca Warriors—not even ranked among the top 100 teams in the world - would have exited at the group stage. However, Eve said that the belief in his team is that they can defy the odds and move forward.
“Nobody expected us to get out of the group, nobody,” argued Eve at yesterday’s pre-match press conference. “Anything that we do is a bonus,” he stated. ”We still in it going into the last game and I think that of itself is progress.”
Published kick-off 7pm (ET)...
Despite the kick-off in all outlets, we've seen games at the Gold Cup having a tendency to start some 15-20 minutes after the scheduled start time.
So, anticipate a 7:16 pm (ET) type start in Charlotte tonight.
However... US fans can take some assurance from the historical meeting between the USMNT and Soca Warriors with the 27 meetings between the teams showing this overall statistic: 20-3-4.
Three teams in contention to advance
With the exception of St. Kitts, all remaining teams are still in a position to advance to the next stage of the competition with Jamaica facing St. Kitts at the same time as USA-T&T.
A defeat for the USMNT coupled with a point for Jamaica could even see the 'Stars n Stripes' eliminated from the tournament... unlikely but .... you never know in soccer.
The action at the Bank of America Stadium gets underway at 7pm (ET) / 4pm (PT).
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the third and final group stage game for the USMNT as they face Trinidad and Tobago in Charlotte.
