USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino “really sad” for former club Tottenham
The World Cup is less than fifty days away, and USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino has plenty on his plate but hasn’t forgotten about his roots in Tottenham.

The gray cloud of relegation continues to hover over Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it’s not just the fans who are fearing a catastrophic drop to the Championship. One of their former managers has spoken out on the current situation in North London.
Poch sad to see Spurs suffering
With the World Cup starting in less than 50 days, USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino has plenty to keep him preoccupied but he is still keeping tabs on his former club. The situation is becoming critical for Spurs, and the former manager at White Hart Lane says he is saddened by the reality of a potential relegation at the end of the season.
While on The Overlap’s Stick to Football podcast, the US manager said, “It’s really sad, I really love Tottenham, it’s going to be a part of my life, an important part of my life as a coach, my personal life too.”
Poch joined the Tottenham in 2014 and spent five years with Spurs. In that time he led the the club through a golden age that saw the team place second in the Premier League in the 2016/17 campaign and took them all the way to the Champions League final in 2019.
Can De Zerbi turn it around?
Titles are not on the table at the moment for Tottenham. Instead they are fighting for survival with just four more match days to go. Sitting in 18th place, currently in the relegation zone with 34 points, they trail West Ham by two points and Nottingham Forest by five points.
Poch is suffering just like the fans of the club who are staring down a historic relegation. “It’s really sad because I know how the people are suffering there, inside the club and also the fans. It’s difficult to accept.”

New manager Roberto De Zerbi was brought in during the last international break to try and play savior for a side that is flirting with disaster. He earned his first win since taking over on the touchline last weekend when Tottenham beat already relegated Wolves. He is the third manager Spurs have had on the touchline this season and the 10th since Pochetinno left the club in 2019.
