USMNT - Jamaica summary: score, goals and highlights | CONCACAF Nations League

Update:
Haji Wright brace fires USMNT into the final

United States - Jamaica: As it happened

USMNT are through to the final of the CONCACAF Nations League after a dramatic victory against a resolute Jamaica.

Few gave the Reggae Boyz much chance ahead of the game, owing to their long list of big-name absentees. But it took just 30 seconds for Jamaica to take the lead at AT&T Stadium, Greg Leigh taking advantage after the US failed to clear a long throw.

USMNT needed to get control of the game and they did, although they failed to do much with it. There were openings for Christian Pulisic and Malik Tilman but very little of substance to show from their 78% share of possession

The breakthough finally came in the dying seconds of second half injury time, the 95th minute, when a Pulisic corner kick was deflected into his own net by Cory Burke. The US were finally level and the game went into extra time.

An exhausted Jamaica team had little left to give in the additional period and Haji Wright, an impressive second half substitute for USMNT, took advantage of their tiring legs to score a clinical brace. Gregg Berhalter's side ran out 3-1 winners at the end of extra time and booked their place in Sunday's CONCACAF Nations League final.

William Gittins

Tyler Adams, who came on as a second-half substitute, looks absolutely furious to have been taken off. But he's only just returned from long-term injury and Gregg Berhalter is clearly eager to protect the young midfielder.

William Gittins
100

Another change for the US as Johnny Cardoso comes on for Tyler Adams.

William Gittins
99

This is a tough task for Jamaica now, who now need to chase the game with their depleted squad. Bobby de Cordova-Reid has already been withdrawn for Jamaica, can they muster a late comeback?

William Gittins
97

Gio Reyna has had precious few opportunities at club level this year but he's looked bright since coming on this evening. His vision made the chance, Wright slotted confidently past Blake in the Jamaica goal.

William Gittins
96

Gooooaaaaaal! Haji Wright

The Coventry City man shows real composure to latch onto a pass from Reyna and slot the ball home!

The hosts lead! Relief for Gregg Berhalter.

William Gittins
95

Christian Pulisic turns well in the midfield and looks to thread a pass through to Brenden Aaronsen, cut out by the Jamaica backline.

USMNT are starting to find more space now.

William Gittins
94

There's a chance for McKennie on the right but but Juventus man's cross is blocked and Jamaica win back the ball.

William Gittins
93

Tyler Adams has been quietly impressive since making his return to USMNT action tonight. The Bournemouth midfielder has not played for his country for two years due to injury but has slotted back in well tonight.

USMNT struggled to create much in the 90 minutes but a late corner kick proved to be their route back to parity against a well-disciplined Jamaica side. Gregg Berhalter's side will look to find a winner in the extra time period to follow.

They need to make the most of these chances.

Big chance! USMNT

Quality cross from Pulisic on the right finds Reyna in the middle. He catches it first-time on the volley but his effort is straight at Andre Blake, who holds the ball well.

William Gittins
89

Good cross from Aaronsen on the left, looking for the head of Ricardo Pepi. The delivery is good but Jamaica clear.

William Gittins
89

Good defending from Weston McKennie near his own box, winning the ball back for his team. USMNT look to come forward again.

William Gittins
87

Finally, a dangerous corner kick from Christian Pulisic forces Blake to come out to punch clear. The ball falls to Gio Reyna on the edge of the box but his wild volley is well off-target.

William Gittins
86

Time is running out for USMNT now as they desperately try to get something going in the dying minutes. They are camped in the Jamaica half but there's a real lack of quality in delivering that crucial final pass.

William Gittins
85

Dexter Lambikisa intercepts a clever through-ball from Brenden Aaronsen.

Another corner kick for USMNT. It's easily cleared, once again.

William Gittins
83

Clever pass from Antonee Robinson nearly sets Brenden Aaronsen free in the box. Cordova-Reid gets back to clear.

William Gittins
82

There's a round of boos from the home crowd as USMNT struggle to build any real momentum.

William Gittins
81

Corey Burke has added fresh legs to the Jamaica frontline and he's making things difficult for the American defence. He is a real threat on the break.

William Gittins
80

We're into the final ten minutes of normal time and, as it stands, USMNT are heading out of the Nations League. Can they find a late leveller?

William Gittins
79

Weston McKennie delivers from the right and his cross evades Blake in goal. The ball bounces around in the Jamaica box but the US can't quite make space for a shot. The visitors get it clear.

USMNT need greater involvement from Ricardo Pepi in the box.

William Gittins
77

The corner kick is overhit but Greg Leigh does well on the left flank to recover the ball and win a throw-in for his side.

William Gittins
76

Brilliant play from Cordova-Reid to get his team up the field and win a corner kick. His experience, and Premier League quality, could be crucial in this final quarter of an hour.

William Gittins
75

A final change for Gregg Berhalter! Brenden Aaronsen comes on for Malik Tilman.

Can the former Philadelphia Union forward be the difference-maker for USMNT?

William Gittins
74

An attempted link-up between Pulisic and Pepi breaks down in the penalty box. Jamaica win the goal kick, which they will take at their own pace.

William Gittins
73

Cory Burke and Karoy Anderson come on for Jamaica. Palmer and Cephas are withdrawn.

William Gittins
72

Christian Pulisic whips in a dangerous cross from the right but Wright and Pepi can't connect.

William Gittins
71

USMNT continue to push as we enter the final 20 minutes. A cross from the right looks for the head of Ricardo Pepi but it's deflected out for a US corner.

Jamaica clear, throw-in USMNT.

William Gittins
69

It's Malik Tillman who takes and blasts the free kick far over the crossbar.

That's a real waste from such a good position and the home crowd let their frustrations be known.

William Gittins
69

USMNT win the free kick, around 25 yards from goal, left of centre. Malik Tilman and Christian Pulisic are standing over it.

William Gittins
68

Damion Lowe

Christian Pulisic makes good progress on the edge of the box, until being flattened by the Jamaican midfielder.

William Gittins
67

Big chance! Jamaica

Incredible miss from Kasey Palmer, who manages the sky the ball over an open goal from just six yards out.

He looks across at the assistant and must be relieved to see the offside flag go up, meaning that it would not have counted anyway. Nevertheless, that was an astonishing miss from such close range.

William Gittins
65

Big calls for a USMNT penalty as Haji Wright takes a tumble in the box. Referee waves away the appeals.

William Gittins
64

And a first change for Jamaica. Daniel Johnson replaces Jamal Lowe.

William Gittins
63

Triple change for the United States. Pepi, Adams and Wright come on, replacing Weah, Musah and Balogun.

William Gittins
62

Big chance! Jamaica

A simple long ball up the field nearly pays dividends for the Reggae Boyz and Renaldo Cephas is sent sprinting through on goal. He's one-on-one but can't beat Matt Turner, who makes a good save.

A lucky escape for USMNT there.

William Gittins
61

This half has been much better from USMNT but they haven't managed to convert that into any clear-cut chances. They've played with greater width in the second half, stretching the Jamaican backline and looking to create space in behind.

William Gittins
60

As we approach the final 30 minutes at AT&T Stadium it looks like USMNT are readying another change.

William Gittins
59

Christian Pulisic gets across to take the corner kick. He curls the ball towards McKennie but Jamaica manage to clear.

William Gittins
58

More good work from Pulisic, who makes space on the left and whips in a teasing low cross. Balogun is lurking in the middle but can't quite reach it.

Corner kick to USMNT.

William Gittins
57

Big chance! USMNT

Brilliant play from Christian Pulisic to spin on the ball in the Jamaica box and skip past a challenge. He makes space for a shot form the left but the angle is too tight and it's dragged wide.

Better from the USMNT captain.

William Gittins
55

Weston McKennie gives away a foul in the Jamaica half, releases the pressure and letting Jamaica reset.

William Gittins
54

Good counter-attack from USMNT sets Timothy Weah into space on the right. He tries to find space for a shot but Jamaica get back quickly and smother the danger, forced USMNT back.

William Gittins
53

Kasey Palmer

The Jamaica midfielder is booked after clattering into Timothy Weah on the halfway line.

William Gittins
52

Jamaica are looking to slow the game down whenever possible, taking their time over goal kicks and throw-ins.

They're ahead, can you blame them?

William Gittins
50

After the halftime switch of Reyna for Scally, it looks like Weston McKennie will fill in as right-back. From there he will have the opportunity to link up with Juventus teammate Timothy Weah.

William Gittins
49

Clever dinked pass from Gio Reyna, searching for the run of Malik Tilman. The PSV midfielder stretches to reach the ball but it bounces through to Andre Blake.

William Gittins
48

The second half begins with USMNT continuing to dominate possession, but being kept at bay by an organised Jamaica set-up.

William Gittins
47

Clever from Timothy Weah to let a through-ball run through to Gio Reyna. The halftime sub gets on the ball but his cross is wildly over-hit.

William Gittins
45

I was wrong! USMNT do make a change at the break, Gio Reyna comes on to replace Joe Scally.

William Gittins
45

And we're back!

USMNT are looking to keep this Nations League journey alive!

William Gittins

Watch: Malik Tilman misses best USMNT opening

This was the play of the first half for the United States. Good wing-play from Timothy Weah on the right flank but Malik Tilman could not convert.

William Gittins

Will Gregg Berhalter make changes at the break?

They may not have shown it so far, but this is a very talented USMNT roster at Gregg Berhalter's disposal. They look particularly strong in the attacking areas and boast a number of potential game-changers on the bench, including Ricardo Pepi, Brenden Aaronsen and Gio Reyna.

Will Berhalter look to change anything at half time? Unlikely, given the strength of the team already on the field, but don't be surprise if he has made substitutions by the hour-mark if the scoreline does not improve.

William Gittins

Can USMNT find a way back?

That was, all things considered, a fairly poor opening 45 minutes from Gregg Berhalter's side. They looked susceptible to long throws, struggled to create chances and, when those opportunities did come, failed to take advantage.

However, it should also be said the the US have come up against Jamaica side that is most comfortable sitting deep and playing reactively. USMNT did looked more dangerous as the first half wore on and they will take some comfort from the chances that they did create. Malik Tilman, however, will be ruing an opportunity squandered in the final minutes of the first half.

William Gittins

Jamaica lead after shocking US start

Thirty seconds, that's all it took for Jamaica to break through the USMNT defence and fire themselves ahead. A long throw from Damion Lowe caused chaos in the US box and Greg Leigh did brilliantly at the far post to ghost in and send a thumping header past Matt Turner.

Those long throws have continued to worry Gregg Berhalter's side throughout the first half and the Reggae Boyz offer a threat on the counter-attack.

William Gittins
45+2

Peeeep peeeeep peeeeeeeeeeep

There's a final opening for Christian Pulisic but the USMNT captain is crowded out in the box and the chance has gone.

That's all for the first half. Jamaica are 45 minutes away from the Nations League Final.

William Gittins
45+1

Bobby de Cordova-Reid does brilliantly again to make progress down the right and make space for a teasing cross. Miles Robinson is there to boot the ball clear.

William Gittins
45

There will be two added minutes in Arlington, Texas.

William Gittins
44

Big chance! USMNT

Best chance of the game for the US as Weah fires across a low cross from the right. Malik Tilman meets the ball on the six-yard box but Jamaica have bodies in the way to block the shot and clear.

The visitors survive.

William Gittins
43

Nearly a chance for Jamaica after Weston McKennie loses the ball in front of his backline. Renaldo Cephas charges forward with the ball but his touch is a little heavy and he runs out of room.

William Gittins
41

Greg Leigh hurls in a long throw from the left and causes yet more problems for the US. The visitors are appealing for a handball, but it looked to have hit the chest of Miles Robinson.

William Gittins
40

Jamaica win a free kick in their own half after an over-eager challenge from Malik Tilman. It looked a little harsh on the USMNT man.

William Gittins
39

Joe Scally curls in a rather aimless cross into the box, easily booted clear by the impressive Michael Hector. A sign of frustration for the US.

William Gittins
37

There's a coming together between Tilman and Lowe in the US half. The referee calls them both over to cool things down.

William Gittins
36

The US are pushing every outfield player up into the Jamaica half but there's a real lack of movement from Berhalter's side. They look so static, and so easy to defend against, like this.

William Gittins
35

Spectacular attempt from Cordova-Reid, who tries to lob the ball over Turner from the halfway line. It's just wide of the target, but it's a good effort.

William Gittins
34

Jamaica try to work the ball out to Palmer on the right but the pass is over-hit, USMNT win a goal kick.

William Gittins
33

Brilliant hold-up play from Jamal Lowe, who finds Bobby de Cordova-Reid flying forward. The Fulham man does brilliantly to hold off two USMNT challenges.

William Gittins
32

More resolute defending from the visitors as Michael Hector heads clear. They are continuing to frustrate the US.

William Gittins
31

Break in play as Malik Tilman goes down after a heavy collision on the edge of the Jamaica box. He should be fine to continue.

William Gittins
27

Christian Pulisic tries to make some space on the left but he's quickly closed down by a trio of Jamaica players. He wins the foul but fails to make any ground.

William Gittins
26

Good work from Weston McKennie to win the ball back, 30 yards from goal. He finds Timothy Weah on the edge of the box, his right-footed shot is dragged just wide of the post.

William Gittins
25

It's been a frustrating start for USMNT, who have struggled to convert their on-ball dominance into many real openings. Jamaica have looked resolute and organised in their defence, a real challenge for the US to break down.

William Gittins
23

The corner kick is headed clear by Tilman and the ball ends up in the hands of Turner.

William Gittins
22

Jamaica go up the other end and win a corner. The big lads are coming up from the back...

William Gittins
21

Big chance! USMNT

The US mount a sharp counter-attack and they have a three-on-two, with Balogun on the ball. He tries to find Pulisic but the pass is just behind the US captain, giving Latibeaudierre a chance to get back and block.

A good chance wasted for USMNT.

William Gittins
19

Ambitious through-ball from Robinson is cut out by Cordova-Reid and Jamaica go on the offensive. Cephas cuts inside and makes room for a shot, but it's easily saved by Turner.

William Gittins
18

Important interception from Chris Richards to cut out a ball forward to Jamal Lowe. He's the only out-ball for Jamaica.

William Gittins
17

Christian Pulisic takes the resultant corner kick but it's a poor one, well over-hit and easily cleared.

William Gittins
16

Big chance! USMNT

The hosts work the ball out to Joe Scally on the right, who has time and space to curl in a cross. He finds Folarin Balogun in the middle but his effort is deflected out for a corner kick.

William Gittins
15

We're a quarter of an hour in and Greg Leigh's first international goal remains the only one of the game. Looking back at that opening strike it was poor defending from Joe Scally, who was caught sleeping at the back post.

William Gittins
14

It's been a very scrappy opening to this game, lots of free kicks and a real disjointed feel to the play. This type of game will undoubtedly suit Jamaica who, having scored their goal, can now sit back and defend.

William Gittins
13

USMNT get the cross cleared, Jamaica win a throw-in midway inside the US half.

William Gittins
12

Jamaica win another free kick after more good work from Renaldo Cephas. A chance to deliver from the left for Jamaica now.

William Gittins
10

Balogun does well to hold the ball up and brings his teammates into the game. Tilman charges into the box and his muscled off the ball brilliantly by Di'Shon Bernard, winning his side a goal kick.

William Gittins
9

Neat interplay from Pulisic and A. Robinson on the left to send the Fulham man sprinting down the line. He plays a cross-field ball to Weah but the pass is overhit and the attack loses momentum.

William Gittins
8

Poor touch from Yunus Musah allows Renaldo Cephas to pinch the ball on the halfway line. Joe Scally is forced to bring him down and give Jamaica a free kick.

William Gittins
7

USMNT are starting to dominate the ball now, showing good patience as they look to build the play from the back. Jamaica are dropping back into a 4-5-1 shape, content to let the hosts have possession.

William Gittins
6

Joel Latibeaudierre is penalised for a late challenge on Timothy Weah on the halfway line.

William Gittins
5

Good defending from Chris Richards to prevent Damion Lowe reaching a through-ball. Goal kick to USMNT.

William Gittins
4

USMNT look to get a bit of control in this game and start to build their passes through the middle. Gregg Berhalter looks fairly relaxed on the touchline, unwilling to let that early goal knock him.

William Gittins
2

Incredible start for this Nations League semi-final! Jamaica won and early throw-in in the US half and managed to punt a cross to the back post, where Greg Leigh was on hand to head the ball past Turner.

USMNT need a big response now!

William Gittins

Reggae Boyz take a shock early lead!

William Gittins

Gooooaaaaaal! Greg Leigh

Astonishing start 20 seconds in as the visitors lead! The home crowd is shocked, Jamaica are delighted!

Weston McKennie hungry for another Nations League triumph

The CONCACAF Nations League is a relatively recent addition to soccer's global calendar, a new competition that pits all of the Northern and Central America nations against one another.

Christian Pulisic beats personal best with AC Milan

Last summer Christian Pulisic made the decision to leave Chelsea after four years with the club. He had made positive impressions in flashes but had struggled to secure a starting berth for the Premier League giants.

He moved to AC Milan and has looked like a player reborn, showing all of the talent that convinced Chelsea to bring him from Borussia Dortmund. Pulisic has hit 12 goals already this season, beating his previous best for a single campaign, and will wear the armband for Gregg Berhalter's team tonight.

Another meeting of CONCACAF rivals

The United States and Jamaica are two of the biggest producers of players in CONCACAF and there are always stars on show when USMNT meet the Reggae Boyz.

They have played each other 32 times in the past but the historic record is startlingly one-sided, with USMNT coming out on top in 19 of those encounters and Jamaica winning only three. Can Jamaica turn things around and get a bit of revenge this evening?

Jamaica forced into several changes for USMNT clash

The Reggae Boyz were always destined to go into this game as underdogs but a number of selection issues for Heimir Hallgrimmsson has made the task at hand even harded.

Experience West Ham United forward Michail Antonio misses out due to injury, while Aston Villa's Leon Bailey and forward Trivante Stewart have both been dropped after discipline issues in the camp. Al-Ettifaq winger Demarai Gray and Shamar Nicholson are both suspended due to the accumulation of yellow cards in the CONCACAF tournament.

Berhalter on USMNT’s preparation for the World Cup: Nations League, major friendlies, Copa America

USMNT and Jamaica are playing for a place in the CONCACAF Nations League final, but US head coach Gregg Berhalter is also hoping to use these games as preparation for bigger tests to come. Speaking to reporters ahead of the game, Berhalter explained that these matches offer a chance for the team to become comfortable in pressure scenarios.

"Elimination games and playing against the best teams is what will prepare us for the World Cup in 2026. We don't have qualifying, so what else is there?" he said.

Christian Pulisic looks to continue red-hot form

He's been feted as the future of soccer in the United States since making the move to Borussia Dortmund as a teenager, but Christian Pulisic's career has not been without difficulties. His huge early promise in Dortmund saw him attract the attention of Premier League side Chelsea, who spent close to $70 million to secure his services.

He impressed in patches in England but failed to nail down a regular spot in the starting XI and last summer was sold to AC Milan. He has taken to life in Italy and put up some deeply impressive numbers for the Serie A giant, bettering his previous career-best goal tally after scoring in a win over Hellas Verona last weekend.

Now, with USMNT preparing for a big year of action, he has the chance to bring that form into the international arena.
