USMNT star Ricardo Pepi gets Premier League offer
After scoring goals with PSV and the US national team, Pepi could soon be making the move to England.
The form of PSV and USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi has caught attention this year and the El Paso-born star could soon be leaving the Netherlands.
Pepi, still only 21 years old, has scored 10 goals in 15 Eredivisie appearances this season, despite having only started five games. With veteran striker Luuk de Jong continued to be favoured from the start, clubs are circling.
AS sources report that an unnamed Premier League team has submitted an initial offer for Pepi, with a fee of up to $21 million suggested. This will be made up of both fixed payments and potential add-ins, but it would certainly represent a major windfall for PSV.
Interest in Ricardo Pepi is nothing new. Nevertheless, early indications suggest that PSV will hold out for a larger offer before parting with Pepi.
How long is Ricardo Pepi’s contract with PSV?
Ricardo Pepi broke through as an exciting prospect with FC Dallas, making his MLS debut at the age of 16. He impressed at a young age with Dallas before being snapped up by German side FC Augsburg in 2022, joining on a deal worth $20 million plus add-ons.
At the time that made him the most expensive American to move from MLS to Europe and Augsburg’s record signing. However the deal didn’t work out and he was sold to PSV 18 months later, for a cut-price fee of $9.8 million. At the time he signed a five-year deal with PSV, keeping him at the club until June 2028.
He has proved good value for money for the Dutch giants and is in particularly good form at the moment. He has recorded five goals and two assists in his last five Eredivisie games, starting in only three of those fixtures. However head coach Peter Bosz may soon decide that he needs to give the American more regular starting opportunities or risk losing a potential star.
