As was the case for the Copa América Centenario held in 2016, the United States is gearing up to hold the 2024 edition of the tournament, which will expanded due to new strategic agreement between CONCACAF and CONMBEOL.

When is the 2024 Copa América? How many teams will take part?

Like in the “one-off” 2016 event, six North American, Caribbean and Central American nations will have the chance to take part in the competition alongside the 10 South American countries, Lionel Messi’s Argentina included, that are its regular participants. The tournament is due to begin on 20 June and run through to 14 July, the date of the final.

Where and when is the 2024 Copa América draw?

According to Argentine journalist Gastón Edul of TyC Sports, the draw for the 2024 Copa América is expected to take place in Miami on Thursday 7 December. The format for the competition will be fairly straightforward, with the 16 teams drawn into four groups of four and the two top progressing to the knockout rounds, starting at the quarter-finals.

Which CONCACAF members qualify?

While all 10 CONMEBOL members will qualify for the tournament itself, it has still to be decided which CONCACAF nations will be involved. However, we do know that it will be six of United States, Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Honduras and Jamaica, who will take part in the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League in November.

The winners of the four ties will earn a place in the 2024 Copa América, while the four losers will be paired to play in two single-legged qualifying play-off matches for the final two spots.
