River Plate and Boca Juniors are currently experiencing contrasting fortunes. While River dominates the league table, their rival is struggling down in 15th and has a new coach at the helm. The Millionaires, led by Martín Demichelis, have been the standout team in the competition thus far, whereas Jorge Almirón’s new Xeneize will start their campaign on Wednesday against second placed San Lorenzo.

River Plate vs Boca Juniors set for May

The two clubs will face off for the first time this year on May 7 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time at the Estadio Monumental. Their last encounter was on March 20, 2022, when Boca secured a 1-0 victory over River, with Sebastián Villa scoring the winning goal. At that time, Xeneize was managed by Battaglia.

Before the Super Clásico, River has upcoming fixtures against Gimnasia, Newell’s, Independiente, and Atlético Tucumán in the Argentine Professional League, as well as facing Sporting de Cristal at home and visiting Fluminense in the Copa Libertadores.

Boca will play against San Lorenzo, Estudiantes, Central, and Racing in the domestic league, and will host Deportivo Pereira while travelling to face Colo Colo in the South American tournament.
